OVERVIEW:
Monitor and supervise a variety of youth programming. Organize, and lead activities in a variety of environments and settings. Develop lesson plans & curricula related to youth afterschool program based on objectives and guidelines.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Possess basic knowledge & skills related to assigned area of instruction.
 - Ability to work a flexible of hours, including early mornings, afternoons & early evenings.
 - Maintain current CPR& First Aid certifications.
 
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:
- Must be able to prepare & present lessons for appropriate programs & classes
 - Must be able to lead a class & educate/motivate class members.
 - Must be competent & knowledgeable in program area.
 - Ability to interact with a diverse group of students, parents and customers a positive friendly manner.
 - Ability to work in a team atmosphere promotion positive & effective working relationships with staff, volunteers & customers.
 - Ability to maintain self-control & composure in a fast-paced environment.
 - Ability to represent Portland Parks & Recreation in a professional manner.
 - Ability to follow directions & communicate verbally & in writing.
 - Must be able to adequately respond to safety & emergency situations.
 - Must be comfortable handling conflicts & responding to problems & student concerns.
 
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leading, interacting & supervising after school activities (arts, crafts, sports, group games, cooking, etc.) for children in grades K-5.
 - Demonstrating personal behavior of a responsible, professional & exemplary nature.
 - Responding to participant’s, parents & staff questions, complaints or concerns immediately and professionally.
 - Communicating with GROW Afterschool Program Lead & the Recreation Coordinator on a on-going basis.
 - Provide a fun, safe, creative & interactive afterschool experience for all participants by maintaining a positive attitude.
 - Responsible for the health & safety of campers.
 - Maintain organization & cleanliness of facilities and equipment & supplies at the end of every activity.
 - Be calm & flexible during any unforeseen situations.
 - Promote a welcoming & friendly atmosphere.
 - Observe progress & discuss with students & parents when appropriate.
 - Set up & take down class equipment as necessary.
 - Recognize and promptly respond to safety hazards and emergency situations.
 - Maintain control of students & facility area at all times to ensure safe & effective classes.
 - Follow all Portland Parks & Recreation rules, policies & procedures.
 - Regular attendance at quarterly staff meetings.
 - Other duties assigned.
