Sports Coach - As and When Required

Reports to: Curriculum Team Leader

Pay Scale: Band 5 (sp 22-25) (£9.49 - £10.50 per hour excluding holiday pay)

(Entry will normally be at the first point of the scale unless significant relevant experience is demonstrated)

Hours of Work: As and when required (likely to be 13:15 – 14:10 on Wednesday afternoons, term time only plus fixtures - hours of work may vary)

Key purpose of role:

·  To coach our students in a chosen sport, so that they can participate at a recreational and competitive level.

·  To motivate our students, to maximise their potential in a chosen sport.

Main Responsibilities:

The postholder will:

1.  Coach and guide our students so that they fulfil their sporting potential

2.  Implement highly structured coaching sessions designed to challenge all ability levels

3.  Effectively coach our students in competitive situations e.g. making the correct tactical decisions, substitutions etc.

4.  Be able to administer first aid when and where necessary

5.  Ensure all practices are safe and comply with the college’s Health and Safety policies (reporting first aid incidents)

6.  Ensure that all equipment is used correctly and safely put up and taken down

7.  Ensure that all equipment and sportswear is stored neatly and safely

8.  Ensure that all the college’s sportswear and equipment is accounted for after each coaching session/competitive match

9.  Act as a positive role model for our students and positively contribute to our College’s excellent sporting reputation

10.  Have the expertise to select the best possible squad to represent the College in competitive leagues/cups

11.  Liaise and communicate effectively with our students and members of the PE team

12.  Stay up to date with NGB initiatives and coaching practices

13.  Ensure that high standards of behaviour are upheld within each sports team, (escalating any issues which require formal disciplinary action to the Curriculum Team Leader)

14.  Respond efficiently to emails/phone calls in relation to your chosen sport

15.  Any other reasonable duties as requested by the Curriculum Team Leader

Staff must be aware of the College’s procedures for raising concerns aboutchildren's welfareand must report any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead without delay. The post holder will also:

1.  Contribute to the College’s Quality Assurance processes as required.

2.  Participate in the College’s Staff Professional Development Scheme as required and attend training and development as appropriate to the role.

6.  The post holder will be required to carry out such reasonable additional duties as may from time to time be determined by his/her manager or College Principal.

7.  This job specification is subject to annual review by the by the line manager and Principal. Any changes in substance or interpretation will be implemented after consultation with the post holder.

Health and Safety Responsibilities of all staff:

1.  Under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 it is the responsibility of all individual employees to take care of their own health and safety at work, and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work. This includes co-operating with management in complying with health and safety obligations, particularly by reporting promptly any defects, risks or potential hazards.

2.  Report any incidents, accidents and near misses to line manager/H&S Adviser in accordance with College Policy.

3.  Ensure that personal protective equipment (PPE) provided for his/her safety is maintained and used appropriately and that any problems are reported immediately to his/her line manager.

4.  Report any health concerns to line manager, H&S Adviser or HR Team which may be work related or which may affect his/her ability to do their job safely.

5.  Attend all statutory and essential H&S training as designated by the H&S Adviser and line manager.

6.  Comply with College and departmental H&S procedures relevant to his/her particular area and systems of work including emergency procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS/
TRAINING / GCSE Maths and GCSE English at Grade C or above or equivalent at Level 2.
Qualified to a minimum of NGB Level 1 (or prepared to gain within 1 year of appointment)
Possession of first aid at work qualification (or prepared to gain on appointment) / Hold a refereeing /umpiring qualification
Minibus Driver D1 (or prepared to achieve on appointment)
Qualified to NGB Level 2 / Application
