Job Notice: Junior Development Squad Coach

Position and Location:

Team Hardwood is seeking to hire a cross country ski coach to lead our Junior Development Squad. This is a part-time position, with the majority of work being completed on Saturdays in the fall and winter, with the possibility of one additional evening per week, depending on athleteregistrations. The Junior Development Squad coach will also work closely with the coach(es) of ourSenior Development Squad. The ideal candidate will have at least NCCP Level I coaching certification or equivalentexperience.

The Junior Development Squad coach will have the opportunity to participate in coaching at one of the top racing clubs in Canada,one that routinely places athletes on the Ontario Ski Team and in National Training Centres, and consistently ranks in thetop ten clubs at Nationals. The entire team (including the Junior and Senior Development Squads and Masters) comprisesnearly 60 athletes and is supported by dozens of enthusiastic and committed parent volunteers.

The successful candidate will work out of Hardwood Ski and Bike, a full service cross country ski and mountain bikecentre located near Barrie, Ontario. The position offers an opportunity to be mentored by the Senior DevelopmentSquad coach(es), as well asJack Sasseville, a former national team coach.

Responsibilities:

The Junior Development Squad coach is accountable for all aspects the delivery of the training program and growth of the Junior DevelopmentSquad, which is aimed at athletes in the Learning-to-Train stage of development, with the goal of preparing them forgraduation to our Senior Development Squad. In particular, the coach will be responsible for:

-conducting Saturday (and one possible weekday) training sessions from October to March.

-coaching and waxing support at local races;

- leading the Junior Devo athletes to the Ontario Midget Championships;

- helping the Head Coach with overall team administration;

- assisting with team fundraising, marketing and recruitment initiatives.

The Junior Development Squad coach reports to theHead Coach and Technical Director of Team Hardwood. The Board of Directors of the Hardwood Hills Nordic DevelopmentCentre (HHNDC), aka Team Hardwood, an incorporated non-profit organization, also provides oversight.
