JOB/INTERNSHIP PERFORMANCE EVALUATION PROCESS

DEPARTMENT OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

GROVE CITY COLLEGE, GROVE CITY, PA

An essential component of the internship program is assessment of the student’s performance during the internship. In order to facilitate this process the Department of Business Administration provides an evaluation system for use by on-site supervisors. This system is used for all internships and thus enables the College to obtain the same information on each student’s performance. This system provides Grove City College with information that is used to help determine the student’s grade, and to determine how the College’s students are performing in the various jobs and internships. If desired, it may also be used by the host organization for its evaluation purposes.

The College requests that the student’s supervisor evaluate the student’s performance near the end of the internship, but before the student completes the internship. Please fill out the “Performance Evaluation Form” and return it to the student’s faculty sponsor or to the student to deliver to the faculty sponsor before the student completes the internship, preferably during the last week or two of the internship. For evaluations that the supervisor sends directly to the faculty sponsor, the student will provide the appropriate address. Please carefully consider the student’s performance and complete each part of the form as described below.

There are four parts in the evaluation system in the attached form:

·  Evaluation of specific job tasks. The first page of the performance assessment form contains spaces for rating six job tasks. The supervisor should identify the six tasks which the student performed the most frequently and rate his/her performance on each task. The first step in this process will be for the supervisor to state each of the six tasks in the spaces provided. Then rate each task on the seven-point scale below the task statement. Circle the appropriate rating point on each scale.

·  Evaluation of general job skills. The second page of the performance assessment form contains rating scales for twelve general job skills. The supervisor should rate the student on each of the job skills using the seven-point scale below the skill statement. Circle the appropriate rating point on the scale.

·  Statement of strengths and areas for improvement. The third page of the performance assessment form contains spaces for stating the three most notable strengths exhibited by the student and three areas in which improvement would have upgraded his/her performance. Please state up to three in each category in the spaces provided.

·  Overall evaluation. The lower part of the third page contains a rating scale to assess the overall quality of the experience. Circle the appropriate rating point on the scale. Below the overall rating is space for the supervisor to make comments about the overall experience with the student. Please feel free to make comments about the student, the internship program, or other relevant topics.

·  Finally, the supervisor should indicate whether or not the evaluation has been reviewed with the intern, sign and date the form, and make provision for the student’s faculty sponsor to receive the form via either mail or the student.

Thank you for your assistance in this important part of the internship program.
