TASK/PROCEDURE / HAZARD / SAFE PROCEDURE
Forklifts are typically non-licensed vehicles used at large warehousing operations for the purpose of material handling. Forklifts come in many different sizes and configurations. From small solid tire lifts, to large all-terrain machines, each has its own stability factors that can quickly change thus causing serious injury and property damage. Always make sure the forklift you are using is the right lift for the job. Operators must be training on each type of forklift they will be operating. / Crashes involving other vehicles resulting in multiple injuries
Crashes involving stationary objects resulting in multiple injuries
Roll-over resulting in multiple injuries
Contact with pedestrians and co-workers
Slips and falls while entering and exiting the operators compartment
Mechanical failure / Adequate training is required before attempting to operate a Tow Tractor.
Conduct and document a pre-trip inspection at the beginning of the shift
Always use a seatbelt during operation
Pay attention to road signs and follow all safe practices. Slow down
Watch out for pedestrians and remember they have the right-of-way
Pre-plan your route and ensure it is free of obstacles and pay attention to other traffic in the area
Keep the operator’s compartment clean and free of debris
Use caution when entering and exiting the cab. Maintain a 3 point contact. Keep steps and footwear free of mud, grease, and other slippery substances.
To avoid tip-over, never travel horizontally on steep grades
When parking, place all controls in neutral and set the parking brake. Only park on solid level surface. Chock the wheel when leaving the vehicle unattended
Shut down the engine when refueling
Never exceed the machine’s load rating
Never remove the radiator cap when hot
Repairs should only be made by trained technicians
