About the post

This is a great opportunity for someone to take responsibility for the development of the College’s website and social media channels and innovate ideas to engage members and stakeholders, working across College departments. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the development and management of the College’s communications strategy and activities, providing creative ideas and solutions, whilst providing some administrative and project management support to the Communications Manager.

About The Royal College of Ophthalmologists

The Royal College of Ophthalmologists is the only professional body for eye doctors, who are medically qualified and have undergone or are undergoing specialist training in the prevention, treatment and management of eye disease, including surgery. The College has a membership of over 3,500 consultants, trainees and doctors in the UK and overseas. The College employs 27 staff and is based in Euston in contemporary offices and hosts meetings and training events. Much of the work of the College is set by the Executive, Council, committees and sub committees, in line with its Charter and the current strategic plan 2015-2019. Specific Responsibilities

·  Maintain, develop and promote the College website as the main communications channel for the College; working with the Communications Manager, the web agency and including the CRM administrator at relevant times

-  Day to day maintenance of the website using the content management system (Wordpress)

-  Update key content, navigation, and structure to ensure that the site is always up to date and the content easily accessible and relevant

-  Manage a diary of online events ensuring publishing and deadline dates are met

-  Source and write bespoke content and images for online publication and in e-newsletters relevant to articles and news items

-  Ensure that all online content is structured, presented and written in the most appropriate format for the audience

-  Work with the CRM administrator and website agency to resolve any technical and integration issues

-  Produce website analytics to support better utilisation and development of the website

-  Produce the monthly e-communications newsletter using click dimensions

·  Manage and develop the social media channels (Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter) to ensure the College remains current and relevant to members and stakeholders, liaising with department teams

-  Monitor and respond to relevant enquiries or comments, working with the Communications Manager on being ‘the voice’ of the College

-  Coordinate updates and posts in good time to remain topical

·  Support the development, production and distribution of print materials

·  Manage a press office function in the absence of the Communications Manager and liaise with senior leaders in the organisation

Experience and Skills required

·  Must have worked on the development and maintenance of websites and social media channels including content - writing and sourcing articles and images

·  Ability to work flexibly, to organise and plan own work to deliver projects and provide solutions to tasks set by the Communications Manager

·  Must have experience of working with CMS (Wordpress), CRM (Microsoft Dynamics) and desirable knowledge of Click Dimensions

·  Produces ‘plain English’ written material that is error-free, grammatically correct, clear and concise

·  Is confident in liaising with colleagues at all levels

·  Actively listens to what others say, responding positively in all interactions

·  Understanding of organisational brand guidelines and their application

Salary expectations: £24,000 - £26,000 per annum

Contract / A full time, permanent contract including a six-month probationary period.
Salary / From £24,000 including London weighting of £3,250 per annum depending on experience
Hours / Mon-Fri, 35 hours per week. Normal College office hours are 0900-1700 but the building operates 0730-1930 and may open for extended hours or at weekends, so this role will require flexibility when events are taking place or maintenance is scheduled
Holidays / 22 working days per annum plus statutory holidays. The College is closed between Christmas and New Year
Notice period / 4 weeks either way after the successful completion of the probationary period

To be familiar with and adhere to College policies and procedures.

The office base is in Central London, but this role may require travel to meetings and events in and around London and the UK with some overnight stays as well as occasional working outside of normal office hours.

The post holder may carry out, from time to time and as directed, any other duties as required in addition to the above that will be both reasonable and within his or her capabilities. It will then be reviewed in association with the post holder.
