Purpose of the role:

To work as part of a campus based Admissions team, and to assist in the smooth, professional and efficient running of the university’s admissions operation, principally by taking responsibility for the processing of applications for particular schools/courses. By using agreed admissions templates, to make decisions on undergraduate and postgraduate applications received via UCAS and via the Admissions Portal, including assessing international qualifications and making an assessment of fee status. For those applicants receiving offers, to decide upon any conditions to set, communicating this decision to the applicant and continuing to correspond with them through the remainder of the cycle in order to maximise conversion.

Please note that all staff within Academic Services may be expected to work specific weekends and outside of normal office hours (e.g. over the Confirmation and Clearing period, Open Days, Graduation Ceremonies etc.). It should also be noted that during exceptionally busy periods (e.g. January – March, August & September) it may be necessary to restrict annual leave.

Main areas of responsibility:

·  To provide an efficient and effective campus based admissions service for student applications. In line with the relevant admissions offer templates, to reach offer decisions on those applications in a fair, equal, courteous and prompt way in line with university policy;

·  Working with Academic colleagues on non-standard applications;

·  To provide a comprehensive range of administrative services (which may be presented face to face, email and on-line), including processing and maintaining data, undertaking mandatory checks (Fee Assessment, Criminal Convictions and Qualification verification), producing offer letters and assisting with the transition from applicant to student;

·  To support arrangements for selection/interview events ensuring relevant applicants receive an invitation. Dealing with enquiries from applicants prior to their arrival and supporting any change or amendment needed to provide the best possible experience for an applicant when visiting the university;

·  To keep up to date with national/sector regulations and legislation regarding admissions. To proactively monitor national advisory bodies in order to advise applicants, student, parents and university staff;

·  To support the Confirmation and Clearing process as directed by the Senior Admissions Officer. Processing confirmation and Clearing offers in a prompt, helpful and courteous manner in order to fill any remaining vacancies as quickly as possible with the best students;

·  To receive and respond to enquiries from colleagues and applicants regarding admission process and procedures referring only the complex enquiries to senior colleagues for further consideration.

·  Any appointment is generally made at the bottom of the salary range for the grade dependent upon experience and previous salary.

·  This post is permanent and full-time.

·  Annual leave entitlements are shown in the table below and increase after 5 years’ service. In addition, to the eight Bank Holidays, there are university discretionary days between Christmas and New Year. All leave, including bank holidays and discretionary days, is pro-rated for part time employees.
