I am pleased to say that Duncan Cook, painter and decorator established in 1985 and member of Stillington Squash Club, has once again agreed to sponsor York Ladies Squash League making it 7 years running so a big THANK YOU to Duncan for his support. Members of the league can vouch for Duncan’s work and I would encourage anyone looking for decorating to get in touch with Duncan – details as follows:

Thanks also to Jane, our secretary, who has once again made a donation to the league. Jane is an expert on her sewing machine with profits donated to Macmillan Cancer Support. Visit the website to see what she can make

The league is always looking for sponsorship so if anyone knows any company/person that would be prepared to sponsor us, please let me know.

The preliminary fixtures were once again produced using Resultszone. Please inform your team members of Resultszone website address.

FACEBOOK

Some of you may already be aware that we now have a facebook page for Y&DLSL so for those facebook fans amongst you, please make the most of this. The plan is to use this to promote the league, advise on coming events, competition updates, share any squash tips/videos as well as a link to the website. So please encourage players to share anything they feel would be of interest to other players. Thank you to Rachael Webster for setting this up who will have access to edit along with Deborah Harvey.

ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

All team players are entered into the achievement award. The outcome is generated by Resultszone and can be found in the player rankings on the site. This is updated automatically as results are added. It is therefore important that the correct names of players are used on the results card. At our end of season presentation evening we will award the WINNER in each division.

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER

The committee use data from Resultszone to identify players who have made significant improvement during the season. This award is given in memory of Wendy Shepherd and is presented by Wendy’s husband Glen at the end of season presentation night if he can attend

PRESENTATION EVENING

This will be held on Wednesday 9th May 2018 at Dunnington & Grimston Sports and Leisure Centre. A buffet supper is provided for both players and spectators on the night. Matches commence at approximately 6pm through to 8.30pm followed by the presentations. It would be great if people can put this date in their diary now and support the finals of the Riley Rose Bowl and 3 String as well as acknowledging the league winners.

KEY INFORMATION

1. Captains Contact List

Please ensure that any changes to captain’s details are sent to Jane Willbourne so that we can update the relevant contact lists and re-issue.

2. Committee Members Contact List

If you have any problems or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us by telephone or by email. You can also contact us through the website by clicking on ‘Contact Us’ at the bottom of the home page.

3. League Divisions

Based on the number of team (21) and standard of teams and players the league has been.

Division I – 5 teams playing home and away each half

Division II – 8 teams

Division III – 8 teams

4. Fixtures

Fixtures are accessible on Resultszone website. Any discrepancies/re-arranged matches should be resolved/confirmed to Micky Richmond or Anne Matwijiszyn. Please ensure you confirm your match start time when you confirm your matches.

5. Rules for League Matches

Following the AGM we have updated rules 4 and 10, both regarding team nominations, so please can all team captains read the 2017-18 Y&DLSL Rules very carefully and make sure your team players are also fully conversant with the rules.

At the AGM I advised that I was following up the point regarding juniors wearing goggles as raised on one of the end of season questionnaires. Having discussed this with the Y&D Mens league, we have now added a new Rule - 25 - relating to all juniors under 19 to wear goggles in competitive games, as is applied to England Squash sanctioned events. This has also been introduced by Y&D Mens League this season.

Just to remind you it is the team Captain’s responsibility to make sure their team have a basic understanding of marking and how to mark under match conditions.

Please ensure that more experienced team players are on hand to help those who are just learning to mark matches – it can be a daunting experience to start with.

6. Result Cards

An electronic version of the results card is accessible from the website. I would recommend that you print off copies of this and complete this at your home match which then gives visibility of team ranking.

7. Team Nomination Form

Please complete your nomination form and email to myself, Jane (League Secretary) and Micky and Anne (Resultszone Co ordinators). There is space on the form to enter players email addresses to ensure that all players can be notified of competitions/key dates for the league.

I would remind you that nominations must be submitted before your club’s first match. Any club fielding more than one team must nominate ALL team players before any of your teams play their first match. Teams must be nominated in strict order of merit throughout the teams. Please refer to Rules 3 – 10 inclusive before nominating your team.

Team nominations must be submitted on this form. Should you have any changes to team ranking/players details please resubmit the nomination form, again to myself, Jane, Micky and Ann (as above)

Any changes to team positions should then be mirrored in your RRB team(s)

8. Competition Dates

Handicap – Sunday 12th – Friday 17th November 2017 – David Lloyd

Open - Sunday 22nd to Friday 27th April 2018 – venue TBC

9. Riley Rose Bowl Competition

Entry form/rules are available to download from our website along with a score sheet. Teams are to be entered on to the nomination list in order for the draw to take place. Once again Teams have been automatically entered in to this competition saving teams the entry fee. Don’t forget we now hold a plate competition for Riley Rose Bowl so you get a minimum of 2 matches. Draws will be notified to team captains once made.

10. 3 String Competition

Entry form/rules and score sheet is available to down load from our website. There is no entry fee for this competition so again I would encourage you all to participate in this competition, giving you the opportunity for more matches during the season. Teams are to be entered on to the nomination list so divisions can be drawn and captains notified in order for them to arrange fixtures. Remember that you can have a mixed team across the divisions and players need to be nominated in merit order.

11. 2018 AGM

Next years AGM will be held on Monday 11th June 2018 at Wigginton Squash Club.

Please can you circulate this newsletter to all your team players to ensure they are fully aware of all activity/dates associated with the league.

Finally on behalf of the Committee I would like to wish everyone a very enjoyable and successful 2017/18 season.

Sue Preston
