POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:Children’s Minister

TYPE OF POSITION:Regular, Part-Time

REPORTS TO:Community/Education Minister

COLLABORATES CLOSELY WITH:Senior Pastor, Student Minister, Care & Sr. Life Minster, Music Minister, Praise and Worship Service Leader, Administrative Assistants, Ministry Teams and congregational volunteers

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Children’sMinister will provide overall direction for ministry to children birth through 6th grade. They will work to integrate education, worship, service, stewardship, fellowship and social activities into an overall comprehensive ministry to children and their families. The Children’s Minister will work in close collaboration with the Education team to foster unified vision and a strong support system. The Children’s Minister will coordinate with the Community/Education Minister and the StudentMinister to provide a smooth transition in Christian growth from childhood into adulthood.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directs and implements the following programs including recruiting volunteers, overseeing their participation and training, and fulfillment of the specific ministry tasks:

  • Sunday morning programming
  • Wednesday evening programming
  • Vacation Bible School
  • Young Family small groups
  • Additional activities, retreats and conferences that facilitate faith development and active participation and growth of children and families

Develops goals, objectives, and strategies that support the vision of the Children’sMinistry program.

  • Articulates this vision and how this program interacts with and supports the overall vision of the congregation
  • Continually evaluates the progress made in carrying out these goals, objectives, and strategies and adjusts them accordingly

Researches, acquires, and integrates new, up-to-date material into the faith development of children.

Supports families through education and family events that help promote faith development in the home.

Communicates with participants, parents, and the congregation with information on current and upcoming activities and plans.

Develops an annual budget that supports and enhances the Children’s Ministry program.

Participates in continuededucation, focusing on Children’s Ministry.

Purchases resourcesthat support the goals of the Children’s Ministry, within the approved budget and in close coordination with supportive ministry teams.

Develops relationships and implements personal contacts and programs to increase attendance and participation.

Attends staff meetings, programming meetings, and other meetings as necessary for coordination and communication

Performs other duties as assigned by the Community & Education Minister.

CHARACTERISTICS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

All of the following are required:

A college degree (B.A. or B.S.) desired

Evidence of training in education and/or Children’sMinistry

Experience in a leadership position

Good organizational and motivational skills

Strong interpersonal, relational, and teamwork skills

An enthusiasm for learning and the search for our meaning and purpose in God’s creation

Must agree with an support the Mission of Vision Statements of Fellowship Lutheran Church

A liturgical background is desirable but not required

Attendance and/or participation in Fellowship’s worship services is expected. Must also be able to be present at additional times and places to support Children’s Ministry activities
