Job Purpose
Reporting directly to the Sport, Health and Wellbeing Leadand operating as part of the Berkshire Youth team, you will provide a diverse range ofleisure time opportunities. Through consultation; you will expand, develop and deliver a Berkshire wide programme, enabling young people across the local areas to engage in positive activities.
Your primary focus will be working acrossBerkshire supporting young people to try, explore, and participate in new activities which enable and encourage young people of all abilities to participate in an active and healthy lifestyle, developing a greater understanding of cultural diversity. Providing the support needed to empower local young people to become community champions
The Activities Development Officer will work with our network of youth clubs, schools, partners and communities, identifying new opportunities for young people to make informed choices about out of school activities. TheActivitiesDevelopment Officer will manage the Sport, Leisure and Activities Team (SPLAT), as well as the design and delivery of the Berkshire Youth Activities Programme and Sports & Arts projects.
Organisation Structure
Main Duties
  • To support,research and determine gaps in provision for young people across Berkshire and the identification of ways to meet needs of young people aged 8 – 18 years in Berkshire and understand the need for, and identify, income generation to support these developments

  • To develop, plan,deliver and evaluate the activity and events programmes, including some events which bring wider membership from outside the network of Berkshire Youth clubs and projects and ensure that these activities and events are sustainable

  • To research and develop after-school and holiday provision for young people

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of communication strategies that encourage participation in programmes by young people, youth workers and volunteers

  • Develop good relationships with specific strategic,partners, local organisations, authorities and governing bodies and enhance funding requirements as appropriate

  • Managing Berkshire Youth Sport and Activity related projects and ensuring that the programmes are innovative and needs led

  • Manage the day to day tasks of the Sport, Leisure and Activities Team (SPLAT) and the delivery staff

  • To support clubs with their development

  • To support the training dept in delivering both nationally accredited and bespoke local training programmes

  • Maintain a good knowledge of National and local initiatives which are of benefit to Berkshire Youth, young people and youth clubs

  • To develop an understanding of diversity and inclusion for engaging young people who are under-represented in physical activity.

  • Deliver and evaluate a programme of training and development opportunities for young people and youth workers related to Leadership, activities and healthy lifestyle

  • To support the development of Berkshire Youth members to work towards quality assurance standards

  • To support the engagement of volunteers who wish to use activities to volunteer for the benefit of their communities

  • To support the development, design and delivery of Sport/Arts specific programmes across Berkshire Youth member organisations

  • Support the development of out of school provision for young people, especially inBerkshire’s rural communities including regular evening and weekends

  • Effectively monitor, collect data, report and evaluate all aspects of work

  • Monitor and work within budget

  • A commitment to participation of young people

  • Displays a commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults

  • Work within guidelines of Berkshire Youth policies and procedures

  • Carry out any other Berkshire Youth duties as required including

Person Specification
Key Criteria / Essential / Desirable
Qualifications and Training /
  • To hold a full UK driving licence
/
  • Educated to degree level

  • Suitable qualification in Sport and Physical Activity or suitable equivalent
/
  • To hold a recognised national governing body qualifications

  • Educated to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent as a minimum
