Context

The Red Cross is the largest voluntary humanitarian organisation in the world. It promotes humanitarian values and provides emergency help to people in short term crisis in the UK and overseas. Within the UK, the British Red Cross operates through 30,000 volunteers and 3,300 staff.

Our success in making a difference to the communities in which we operate is dependent upon the quality, availability and delivery of aid to those in crisis. Services are delivered by teams comprising Senior Services Managers, Services Managers and Service Co-ordinators.

Scope

The post holder will co-ordinate first aid & ambulance support at public events and in emergency response situations.

Overall Purpose of the Post

·  To provide daily co-ordination of the service.

·  To recruit and support volunteers.

·  To ensure a high standard of service delivery.

·  To develop and maintain partnerships and relationships with complimentary organisations and agencies.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  On a day-to-day basis, co-ordinate first aid at public events.

  To attend meetings, site inspections with event organisers for large events.

  To recruit volunteers to first aid duties and ambulance support, and implement all British Red Cross policies concerning volunteers.

  To attend centre meetings - a minimum of one visit per centre per year is required, however more may be necessary.

  To attend meetings with volunteers, colleagues and external partners as/when required.

  To support the development of first aid, ambulance support and emergency response providing support, leadership and motivation to the volunteers.

  To ensure all volunteers are fully skilled to enable them to carry out their duties.

  To work with the People & Learning team and Centre Organisers to ensure a suitable training schedule is implemented.

  To ensure that health and safety requirements for the services are met and ensure the volunteers are trained to meet their responsibilities for health and safety.

  To assist in the co-ordination of the emergency response function of the Society including ambulance support in particular EMAS and NWAS call outs.

  To be part of the Duty Officer team for emergency response attending regular meetings and be part of an on call rota.

  To be part of the Duty Officer team for ‘Out of Hours’ Operational Support attending regular meetings and be part of an on call rota.

  To be responsible for the vehicles, resources and equipment for the services ensuring all stock is kept in good order, rotated and monitored. Also ensure that appropriate legislation and policies for these are adhered to.

  Ensure all vehicles are kept in good working order together with a high level of cleanliness. Vehicles must be MOT’d and serviced as required.

  To publicise the work of the volunteers to the Statutory Authorities, other agencies and the general public.

  To adhere to the Society’s financial processes and be responsible for the preparation of information for invoices for the service.

  To liaise with Senior Service Managers & Service Managers for financial and other information. To provide reports and statistics when requested.

  To assist the Senior Services Managers and Services Managers in the creation and monitoring of the annual budget and supplying financial data to these managers as appropriate. To also provide reports and statistics when requested.

  Use management information to monitor and review service activity. Through user feedback evaluate service quality and be able to show evidence of monitoring and evaluation.

  As appropriate, to respond to an emergency call-out by the British Red Cross.

  To undertake any other duties as requested by the Service Development Managers, Senior Services Managers or Operations Director.

  To support the Quality Assurance Administrator in maintaining CQC registration.

Person Specification

**Education/ Training

/   Educated to GCSE level or equivalent by experience

**Experience

/   Experience of delivering high quality services to the public **
  Experience of leading and motivating volunteers **
  Experience of maintaining effective working relationships **
  Experience of working in the voluntary sector **
  Experience of maintaining records **
  Experience of creating and monitoring budgets.
  Experience of managing all associated accounts.

Knowledge/ Technical Skills

/   Knowledge of the service to be co-ordinated or willingness to undertake training **
  IT literate. Experience of using email, word processing and spreadsheet packages **
  Ability to contribute to the development of operating plans.
  Health and safety practices for the service.
  Working knowledge of legislation relevant to the specific service managed for example CQC (Care Quality Commission)
  Understanding of how to improve service quality for the benefit of users.
  Ability to collate and interpret a range of management information including statistical information and user feedback.
