Job Title:Trusts and Major DonorFundraiser

JOB PURPOSE:

To secure and maximise income from trusts andlottery sources by:

a)Maintaining the existing schedule of applications and reporting

b)Researching and identifying potential new funders and funding opportunities and making appropriate applications

c)Developing and preparing projects and writing applications

To work with the Head of Income Generationand Chief Executiveto set annual income targets for trust income and major donors.

To work closely with service delivery colleagues to gather information or develop projects needed for applications, tenders and reports.

To ensure that relevant staff are informed about income from these sources, particularly where this directly impacts any team or staff member (e.g. funding for a specific post, new reporting systems to be set up) and that reporting requirements are met.

Build relationships with a portfolio of potential major donors and strategically important individuals, using thePay for a Day initiative as a tool and engaging with them through phone calls, meetings, written correspondence, events and Hospice tours.

With support from the Head of Income Generation and Chief Executive, further develop and implement a strategy to compliment income generation, to expand our services and to enable further delivery of high quality care to all who need it. To use research to identify appropriate private trusts, public grants, corporate foundations and private individuals that support such projects. Prepare a case for support targeted at the funder and their motivations.

Working Relationships:

The post holder will work closely with the rest of the fundraising team as well as the Hospice Management and Clinicalteams to ensure income streams and opportunities for fundraising are maximised. They will also maintain external relationships with trusts, grant makers, and strategically important individuals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Duties

  1. Applications to funders
  • Maintain the current schedule of applications to existing grant makers.
  • Develop, write and deliver innovative and creative proposals for funding, in line with the aims, objectives and criteria of each individual funder
  • Maintain a broad and detailed knowledge of the Hospice’s funding needs in order to direct applications accordingly
  • Develop a prospect list of potential new funders through thorough research and develop a programme of applications appropriate to the Hospice’s needs and to funders’ requirements
  • Liaise with other Hospice staff to develop projects and identify areas of work which match funding opportunities.
  1. Reporting and funder meetings/visits
  • Ensure that all reporting requirements are met and reports submitted according to agreed schedules and in line with funders’ criteria
  • Liaise with Hospice colleagues to gather material for reports
  • Where funding impacts staff or teams directly, for example in funding a specific post, service or project, ensure that the appropriate manager is consulted and aware of monitoring requirements
  • Organise and manage funder visits in conjunction with Head of Income Generation, CEO and other appropriate staff members
  1. Major Donor Programme
  • Using the Pay for a Day framework as a tool to enhance the Major Donor programme, identify, nurture and encourage gifts of £5,000 and upwards to support this fundraising initiative.
  • Lead on creating and implementing a research strategy to identify potential major donors

Working collaboratively with the Head of Income Generation:

  • Develop strong, sustainable and profitable relationships with individual major donors to maximise income generation and the Hospice’s profile
  • Develop, manage and deliver dedicated communications plan to support the Major Donor supporter journey

With the support of the Head of Income Generation:

  • Develop and deliver meetings, events and activities to support prospecting, stewardship, engagement and donor recognition
  1. General management and administrative responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate records and information about all supporters and applications and ensure that Raiser’s Edge is kept up-to-date
  • Develop and update a schedule of approaches, showing deadlines for applications, size of application, expected decision dates and any reporting deadlines
  • Maintain an accurate record of number of applications made, successful approaches, rejections, size of award and present this information to the Head of Income Generationat regular intervals
  • Maintain accurate record of the number of and profile details of potential major donors approached and present this information to the Head of Income Generationat regular intervals. Liaise with other staff to ensure accurate statistical information is available, outcomes agreed with funders are effectively monitored and reported and that case studies are updated regularly
  • Record income in conjunction with the Fundraising Team and Finance Team; liaise with Finance Team on any grant or donation restrictions.
  • Contribute to fundraising team meetings
  • Contribute to weekly and monthly fundraising reports
  • Where appropriate, support volunteers
  • Contribute to budget setting for the fundraising department on an annual basis
  • Collate reports within agreed deadlines as required
  • Have a flexible approach in working duties, supporting the larger fundraising team as time and workload permits.
  • Attend other fundraising events and initiatives as required to support the fundraising team

5.Quality

  • Ensure that all fundraising activities communicate the values of the Hospice including quality, equity, compassion and care, ensuringthat all applications and proposals are of a good standard and have appropriate sign off

6.Education & Training

  • Identifying own and other’s learning needs, liaising with the Head of Fundraising and attending training seminars, courses and study days as appropriate.

Job Description – General Statements

Person Specification

Essential / Desirable
Education and Qualifications / Degree Level Education
Experience / Minimum 3 years experience of working in a trust/ statutory fundraising role / Experience of managing volunteers
Significant, proven success in generating and growing income from trusts, foundations and statutory sources / Experience of achieving targets to tight deadlines
A successful track record of securing major grants (in excess of £50,000) from trust, lottery or statutory sources
Experience of identifying and analysing major donor prospects
Experience of developing and maintaining strong and profitable relationships with high value and/or strategically important individuals
Good understanding of the principles of customer (supporter) service
Experience in delivering effective funding reports in line with funders’ requirements
Understanding of and experience in using databases for fundraising or marketing / Experience of Raiser’s Edge
Experience of, or a demonstrable understanding of other fundraising disciplines
Experience in developing and managing projects and budgets
Experience of report writing
Experience of organising meetings including preparing agendas and taking minutes
An understanding of hospice and palliative care services
Skills and Abilities / Excellent verbal and written communication skills / Able to demonstrate an understanding of the sensitive issues that may be faced in a Hospice
