USD 416 Job Description– District Athletic Director

TITLE: District Athletic Director

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION: TheDistrict Athletic Director provides professional leadership in organizing, administering, supervising, and evaluating all extracurricular activities.

The Assistant Principal also serves as the Activities Director and coordinates school activities to avoid scheduling conflicts and ensure rewarding experiences for students. To accomplish these tasks the Activities Director must work closely with the staff and administration of U.S.D. No. 416, and with the staff of other school systems.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Building Principals and Superintendent

SUPERVISES: All building certified teaching staff and staff as assigned

PAYMENT RATE: According to Negotiated Salary with Board

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ensure that all school programs and activities conform to federal, state, and district guidelines.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  1. A valid building-level license issued by the Kansas State Board of Education is preferred but not required.
  2. Masters degree from an accredited a college/university in Educational Administration including hours in Athletic Administration.
  3. CurrentKansasState Teaching Certificate on file in the Central Office.
  4. Minimum of three years certified teaching experience, preferably in a secondary school.
  5. Coaching experience in interscholastic athletic and/or activities.
  6. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office (after employment offer is made).
  7. Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with others, including the ability to communicate effectively with broad and diverse audiences.
  8. Ability to handle a fast-paced, intense work environment.
  9. Ability to manage job responsibilities and meet the established building outcomes.
  10. Ability/willingness to work a daily schedule that could demand an extended workday.
  11. Desire to continue career improvement.
  12. Other alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB LOCATION/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

(Place(s) where work is performed): School buildings (inside/outside),

  1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing, and use of equipment including repetitive motions and computer eye fatigue.
  2. Frequently works in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.

EQUIPMENT (Machines, devices, tools, etc. used in job performance):

Computer, telecommunications equipment, copier, sports equipment

CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE:

  1. Be responsible for the operation, management and budgeting of athletics and related activities. All coaches and sponsors of extracurricular activities from grades 7-12 are directly responsible to the district activity director.
  1. Responsible for the effectiveness of the overall program of athletics in the high school and middle school. Each coach/sponsor is responsible for the effectiveness of his/her own particular sport/activity.
  1. Evaluates coaches and assistant coaches.
  1. Recommends building maintenance and repair items related to the athletic program, supervision of contests, change in schedules or coaches during the school year. These recommendations must be approved by the principal.
  1. Schedules and supervises all athletic and non-athletic related activities, all sponsors or officials for athletic events and makes transportation and meal arrangements.
  1. Has joint responsibility with the building principal and the superintendent for coaching assignments.
  1. Sets up rules and other regulations for the athletic department with the coaches.
  1. Maintains a permanent file of yearly records in each sport.
  1. Informs the public of upcoming athletic contests and the results of completed events.
  1. Approves all athletic and activity requisitions.
  1. Sees that procedures comply with the policies of the Kansas State High School Activities Association and the policies of the board.
  1. Checks the eligibility of all students participating in all interscholastic athletic and non-athletic interscholastic contests.
  1. Responsible for the extra duty roster.
  1. Responsible for custodial help at night activities by informing the head custodian of the high school and middle school.
  1. Works with the middle school principal and high school principal to coordinate middle and high school athletic programs.
  1. Provides and coordinates supervision at home games.
  1. Arranges for a high school administrator to be present or a high school teacher who will be designated as the official representative of the school at all athletic contests away from home that require supervision by league bylaws
  1. Works with superintendent on facility requests.
  1. Performsother duties as assigned by the supervisor and in accordance with the provisions of the USD 416 Board of Education.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Negotiated contract

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the USD 416 Board of Education’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel and this job description.
