2 PART-TIME FRESH PRODUCE SALES ASSISTANTS (15 HRS)
Job Context
The positions are part of our small dynamic team committed to tackling health inequalities. As part of the ECF aim “to get people into healthy food and healthy food into people” we sell fruit, vegetables and a range of other products at our stalls in the Western General Hospital, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and pop-up shops.
Job Purpose
The purpose of the role is to help set up and replenish the stall, pack away the produce and to assist and serve the customers. This includes weighing produce, cash handling and customer service.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Operating stall
- Manage the operation of the stall on your own.
- Receive deliveries and set up stall.
- Ensure the produce is displayed attractively.
- Keepthe stall and displays clean and tidy at all times.
- Replenish and rotate stall produce as and when required.
- Operate the till and accurately handle cash.
- Respond to customer orders received.
- Phone order to main office.
- Follow cashing up procedures.
- Customer service
- Greeting customers who use the stall.
- Assist customers in their purchases.
- Answer queries from customers.
- Deal with and report problems/complaints.
- Promote special offers and tasters.
- General duties
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety and food hygiene standards and good practice.
- Undertake training as required including REHIS Food Hygiene.
- Any other reasonable duties as required.
Person Specification
Essential / Desirable / AssessmentKnowledge & Qualifications / Educated to standard grade level or equivalent in Maths and English / Food Hygiene certificate. / Application Form, Certificates

Place of Work
Normal place of work will be as follows:
- Western General Hospital- Monday, Tuesday and Thursday
- Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh - Wednesday and Friday
The place of work may change from time to time depending on the location of any pop-up stalls.
Pay, Terms & Conditions
The hourly rate will be:
- £7.20 - 25 and over
- £6.95 - 21 to 24
- £5.55 - 18 to 20
- £4.00 - Under 18
The post is part-time, 15 hours per week (rota agreed weekly in advance) worked between Monday to Friday. Shifts are rotated and normally operate 7.45am – 10.45am and 10.45am - 1.45pm. Additional hours may be available / required.
There will be some degree of flexibility required in hours worked, dependent on the needs of the post and potential development of the service.
Some additional hours will be required to provide additional cover for holiday periods and illness.
Annual leave entitlement is 25 days + 10 days public holidays, pro rata for the duration of the contract. Some annual leave is compulsory, for example during Christmas/New Year closure. Other annual leave may be requested at any time, subject to the availability of cover.
