Job Title: Community Enabler

Responsible to: Operations Manager

Salary Scale: SCP 26 (£23,393)pro-rata

Hours: 18.5 hrs per week

Annual Leave: 25 days p.a. plus 11 BH

Main Purpose of the Job

Working in consultation with the local Burley community and volunteers. Responsibility for the identification, development, delivery and management of a sustainable annual plan of activities and events. Supporting volunteers through the development and delivery of community leadership workshops and ongoing support to deliver activities for local people.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To lead on the development and delivery of our ‘Building a Stronger Burley’ project.
  • Using an Asset Based Community Development methodology, engage the community in a visioning event for Burley.
  • Work with the local community to develop a identifying areas of interest and need within the community, developing a programme of events and activities in consultation with the wider community.
  • To support activities, identifying and agreeing the areas of development, level of support to be provided, resources available and identifying additional funding needs.
  • Co-produce an annual plan of events, training workshops,activities and networking opportunities to provide opportunities for the local community to meet, get to know each other and plan sustainable development opportunities that will build a sense of belonging.
  • To publicise and promote the plan, gaining support for the activities, using a wide range of communication and marketing methods.
  • To manage, administer and co-ordinate the recruitment of learners to the community leaders training workshops.
  • To identify, establish and maintain networking opportunities for effective community leadership, establishing mentoring, peer and network support for community leaders.
  • To support community leaders by providing feedback, resources and guidance.
  • To evaluate and monitor success, in terms of measurable outcomes, and the development of new leaders linked to the projects objectives.
  • Attend local networking meetings as appropriate, developing opportunities for partnership working with other organisations.
  • Co-ordinate and supervise the work undertaken by activity group leaders and volunteers, to agreed standards.
  • To design a range of opportunities where volunteers can develop their leadership skills in activity groups and demonstrate clear and measureable outcomes.
  • To design evaluation and monitoring processes for activities.
  • Through regular service user audits and quality feedback, demonstrate the level of impact the project plan has delivered.
  • To assist and support volunteers in fund-raising for activities.
  • Produce and distribute clear and attractive information about the activities and events.
  • To ensure statutory requirements are met for activities and that volunteers observe agreed guidelines on safeguarding children and young people, health and safety, and confidentiality. Responsible for advising, developing and embedding best practice.
  • Ensure appropriate monitoring and evaluating systems are in place for events and activities and that monitoring systems are maintained.
  • Responsible for effective administration of the activities and events including drafting and maintaining financial records.
  • Work closely with the other centre staff and be an effective team member, actively contributing to the development of BLC’s work.
  • Participate in staff meetings and supervision
  • Undertake relevant training as agreed by line manager.
  • Actively support and promote the principles of equal opportunity and follow procedures to safeguarding children and young people
