teachers or have a similar skill and who are confident in literacy teaching.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

You will be employed as a part-time Quest for Learning Literacy Tutor. In literacy, we teach primary school pupils who are struggling with reading and writing from Year 2 to Year 6 using our Reading Quest and BookQuest programmes. This work is carried out 1-1 or in small groups with pupils who need an extra boost.

Tutors are paid per pupils taught with each child having a six-week literacy course of eighteen 30-minute lessons.

Tutors usually work three times a week in schools for a morning or an afternoon. The work is flexible and would suit anyone who wants to work part-time or has another job.

The purpose of this post is to increase individual children’s strategies, confidence, knowledge and skills in reading, writing, spelling and comprehensionto enable him or her to be a successful, independent learner. The Tutor will work with individual children (or in groups) in school and during school hours to motivate and excite pupils to improve their literacy skills. He or she will also support parents or carers to help their child in a constructive and enjoyable way.

MAIN TASKS:

  • You will work as a member of the Quest for Learning team and attend team meetings as required for co-ordination, support and appraisal.
  • You will work in one or more of the schools in which we are involved in Oxfordshire, teaching individual children or in groups according to the teaching model.
  • You will report on the progress of each pupil in accordance with our requirements for monitoring and evaluating.
  • You will encourage the active involvement of each child’s parents/carers in the Quest for Learning activities and act as lead organiser of regular Family Library literacy sessions.
DUTIES:
  1. To undertake training through the Open College Network on approaches to the teaching of literacy skills, being expected to gain the Quest for Learning Tutor qualification.
  2. To work with individual pupils over six weeks, teaching a total of eighteen half-hour sessions.
  3. To take responsibility for intensive individual teaching, keep detailed records of each child’s progress and produce reports for the Quest for Learning’sDirector, the child’s class teacher, SENCO and parents/carers.
  4. To work in partnership with each child’s parents/carers, encouraging support at home for the children’s learning.
  5. To be aware of opportunities for family learning and adult education that are being offered to parents/carers in the neighbourhood.
  6. To work closely with each child’s class teacher, ensuring that any relevant individual education plans include the Quest for Learning work.
  7. To participate in the regular Quest for Learning team meetings and collaborate with the monitoring and evaluation requirements for funded work.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • GCSE English Grade A-C (or equivalent).
