Job Title:Job Experience Training (JET) Coach

Job Summary:To supervise students and young adults with disabilities in a non-paid/paid vocational programs in a business facility away from the Program or School site to enable the students to gain employability skills. Duties include, but are not limited to training students in the following domains: community, vocational, leisure, domestic, academic, and social skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Under the supervision of the Teacher and Director, implement curriculum (including all on-site and community-based instruction) consistent with the students’ transition plan to meet students’ goals and objectives.
  2. Perform job coaching duties as assigned, by assisting in the training of students or young adults in the community or in job sites in appropriate work behavior and specific skills.
  3. Consults with the Teacher and Director on the progress of students and the implementation of instructional/vocational plans.
  4. Consistently model appropriate work maturity skills including but not limited to modeling professional working relationships with business partners and agencies.
  5. Assist Teacher and Director for the purpose of supporting lesson plans and/or developing students’ vocational skills.
  6. Assist students and young adults with disabilities in one-on-one or small group situations on skills related to performing specific job tasks.
  7. Support students and young adults with disabilities develop interpersonal skills necessary in the workplace.
  8. Assist Teacher and Director in assessing the student’s strengths and needs as it relates to vocational skills, social skills, independent living skills, etc.
  9. Ensure safety is maintained in the work or community environment at all times through close observation and monitoring of students, maintaining close physical proximity, remaining alert at all times, and using analytical forethought to proactively intervene in potentially unsafe situations.
  10. Coordinate employer and Program partners for the purpose of meeting the work education objectives.
  11. Counsel students in job search skills for the purpose of informing them of employment and career options.
  12. Monitor student performance in a variety of work sites according to Program guidelines (e.g., visit job sites, obtains employer evaluations, serves as a liaison between employer and student, etc.) for the purpose of identifying areas requiring additional training on techniques and methods for maintaining solid work habits.
  13. Monitor student performance in a variety of community settings to assist students in developing functional and daily living skills.
  14. Collect, record, and maintain data required by student programs as assigned by the Teacher and/or Director.
  15. Transports students, using a Program vehicle, to and from the work site and/or community site.
  16. Tutors students in vocational skills (e.g., work requirements, interviewing skills, self-determination, etc.) for the purpose of enhancing their readiness for employment.
  17. Complies with all company policies/procedures and regulatory requirements and reports any known or suspected violations to his/her supervisor or through other means identified in company policy.
  18. Attend all mandatory meetings and training sessions as required.
  19. Assures cleanliness and orderliness of the Program by assisting in cleaning, filing, and preparing materials. Assists in all security, maintenance, and safety functions as required for the overall facility.
  20. Participate as a team member and promote a positive work environment by demonstrating cooperation, compromise, and appropriate expression of opinion and by treating others with consideration, courtesy, and respect.
  21. Assist with other classroom or work site functions and special assignments as directed, including but not limited to, substitute teaching.
  22. Assist with the planning and preparation of educational materials and activities.
  23. Other duties as necessary to ensure Program success.

  1. Education and/or Experience:
  2. High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  3. Associate’s Degree and/or equivalent experience in the area of responsibility preferred.
  4. One year experience in the area of training site responsibility preferred.
  5. Knowledge of learning styles of students and young adults with developmental disabilities.
  6. Knowledge of computer and technological applications as related to specific job functions.
  7. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:.
  8. A valid state driver’s license with appropriate endorsement to transport students is required.
  9. Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company-approved crisis management procedures is required.
  10. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as student records, employee handbooks, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy/procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate verbally with students and other employees.
  11. Mathematical and Computer Skills: Ability to analyze, interpret, and apply concepts of basic math. Working knowledge of computer software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Powerpoint.
  12. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Skill in problem solving and human interaction. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and make independent decisions.
  13. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee will be required to run, walk, kneel, lie on floor, reach, twist and assist students in wheelchair transfers.
  14. Work Environment:This position requires the individual to work in diverse employment settings. The work environment for this position includes: school settings, community settings, and work sites. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee may be exposed to individuals who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable personal behaviors, use profanity and sexually explicit phrases, make insulting remarks or threats, and exhibit defiance, dishonesty, and assaultive or self-destructive behaviors. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions, and may be subject to occasional travel as required by program needs. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Exposure to bodily fluids, odors, and Bloodborne Pathogens is possible in this environment.
