JOB DESCRIPTION: Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Manager

Maintains, monitors, and assists in market development of current and future ITS initiatives which encompass infrastructure maintenance including central traffic signal system, traffic monitoring cameras, vehicle detection devices, electrical conduit, fiber optic cabling, wireless communications devices including Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC), networking devices, audio-visual equipment, miscellaneous ITS software and dynamic message signs (DMS). This position will work on ITS marketing, planning and design, and will create documents, spreadsheets, plans, estimates, and specifications. This position will receive direction from senior staff and also work independently depending on the work involved.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will be responsible for design and support and marketing of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). A successful Candidate must have experience in system design, system construction inspection, system monitoring and system troubleshooting. Typical products may include ITS systems such as CCTV, variable message signs, vehicle and incident detection technologies, weather information systems, automated toll collection systems, traffic signal prioritization, as well as wireless and fiber optic communication systems. Candidate will work closely with other team members as well as partnered firms and clients to perform required details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of various ITS and communications alternatives.

  • Candidate will deliver business and technical assessments related to strategy development and business capture efforts. Candidate will develop and exploit business and technical leads and will assist company management in the assessment and decision to pursue future ITS contract opportunities. Ability to organize strategies, develop and execute business capture plans highly desired. Candidate may also serve as a technical/subject matter expert support to related ongoing contract activities.
  • Strong understanding of ITS planning, design, integration, operation and maintenance.
  • Independently develops and/or supervises design, support and integration tasks. This includes defining the problem, establishing the work scope, preparing the budget and schedule, planning the work, providing technical direction, and reporting the work status. Further, the individual is responsible to produce calculations, drawings, specifications and reports as required by the particular project. The individual is also required to support designs and provide responses to Contractor requests for information and perform integration tasks throughout any construction and implementation phases.
  • Provides support for other ITS activities as required. May supervise one or more subordinates and provide input regarding performance. May be assigned to a project or organizational team, or as a lead for a specific discipline on a small to intermediate-size project.
  • Research and development for Integrated Vehicle-Based Safety Systems (IVBSS) designed to utilize ITS technologies for internal fleet safety enhancement. Including: forward collision warning (FCW), lane departure warning (LDW), lane change warning (LCW), and curve speed warning (CSW) systems.
    Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

A)MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associates Degree in Electronics or Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Networking, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field and two years of relevant work experience in Intelligent Transportation Systems performing maintenance and operations duties. Any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is qualifying.
