Job Description – Head of Fundraising

Place of work:Royal Blind Society offices in Worthing West Sussex

Hours of work:9am to 5pm Monday to Friday

Reports to:Chief Executive

Scope and general purpose of the job:

To work with the Chief Executive and Fundraiser to increase income to The Royal Blind Society from legacies, high net worth individuals, trusts and corporate donors.

Main duties.

Fundraising

  • Work with the CEO and Fundraiser to develop and implement a fundraising strategy for the Royal Blind Society to secure increased levels of donations from a wider range of current and new income streams
  • Develop key performance indicators and other targets that reflect the overall income generation strategy and monitor performance monthly
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative donor prospect research on existing Royal Blind Society stakeholders and into new and potential supporters to identify potential major donors
  • Manage donor relationships to ensure they are kept informed and enthused
  • With the CEO and fundraiser, identify the gaps of support for The Royal Blind Society from all sectors of business and philanthropic sources, and devise innovative strategies on how to address these gaps
  • Develop proposals and manage appeals aimed at specific individuals, companies, trusts and foundations
  • Ensure that The Royal Blind Society’s database is fully utilised for effective donor management and as an appropriate resource for developing all income streams
  • Develop and manage the Society’s legacy programme
  • Ensure that the Society’s website isfit for purpose and regularly updated providing an effective communications and fundraising medium to current and prospective donors and guests at the Society’s hotels
  • Ensure adequate tools are available in connection with the Director of Hotel Services to promote and market the Society’s hotels in East Preston and Llandudno
  • Work with Trustees and other key volunteer supporters of the Royal Blind Society to harness their efforts on behalf of agreed fundraising objectives
  • Engage with relevant professional development / fundraising forums and networks to include the Institute of Fundraising to build industry knowledge as well as raise the Society’s profile within the philanthropic community
  • Support the CEO in keeping the Board appraised of The Royal Blind Society’s performance. Provide the CEO with regular and appropriate reports on The Royal Blind Society’s progress towards achieving and implementing agreed strategic income generation targets and budgets to be presented at Board meetings

External relationships

  • Manage relations with The Royal Blind Society’’s supporters and other key partners as agreed
  • In the absence of the CEO and as otherwise agreed, represent and promote The Royal Blind Society to the voluntary sector, partner organisations and the media, as appropriate

General

  • Be aware of individual responsibility for health and safety of self and others in the workplace and to adhere to The Royal Blind Society’s health and safety policies and procedures
  • Portray the charity in a positive light at all times
  • Undertake any other duties which may be required from time to time
  • Be willing to work outside normal working hours - including attending or helping at evening or weekend events - if required

Person Specification.

Essential

  • Demonstrable track record of success in securing donations from trusts, the corporate sector and high net worth individuals.
  • Sufficient gravitas and credibility to win and retain the confidence of donors, partners and Trustees
  • Clear strategic thinker approach, able to work closely with colleagues on identifying and developing new income streams
  • Proven ability to work effectively and build sustainable relationships with volunteers and advocates for the Society
  • Creative ability to secure maximum benefit from the Society’s website and potential for increasing income generation from digital media
  • Proven knowledge and experience of working with databases
  • Innovative approach that can support the Chief Executive in devising and implementing strategies for long term philanthropic support forthe Society
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of developing and managing budgets and fundraising plans
  • Articulate in writing and speech including the preparation of formal papers and speaking at public occasions
  • Experience of the strategic planning process
  • Persuasive and diplomatic approach to people at all levels
  • Able to work on own initiative as well as within a team
  • Accurate with excellent attention to detail
  • Willingness to be flexible, creative and work within limited budgets
