Since 2001 we have worked with over 500 organisations using ‘rocket science’ to deliver practical solutions for complex problems and have distributed and managed £17million of grantsto delivery organisations on behalf of different funders.

Overview of the role
We are looking for experienced assessors to join our pool of freelance external grants assessors. You must have first-hand experience of grant making in London or elsewhere. We are particularly interested in hearing from those with experience of assessing sports projects which have a strong focus on contributing to social change.

The role is primarily to assess applications for grants programmes as and when our client’s timescales dictate. The actual number of assessments will depend on the demand for the various funds we manage, there is no minimum guarantee of work. The role will primarily be home-based on a freelance basis and a flat rate per grant application assessment will be provided, based on the level of detail and complexity.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Turn around assessments within challenging timelines in an accurate, logically thought out manner
  • Assess applications using programme criteria and provide concise standard template case summary documentation
  • Provide recommendations against each assessed application, based on the information provided and the outcomes required
  • Prepare appropriate paperwork and feed into or attend moderation meetings to ensure that recommendations made are consistent across a portfolio of projects and answer queries relating to each application assessed
  • Assist in giving telephone and/or written feedback to successful and unsuccessful applicants

Candidates will need to demonstrate that they can work within Rocket Science’s approach to assessment and it is desirable that they are also familiar with using an online grants management system. Access to broadband, email and phone is essential.
