JOB DESCRIPTION: EMPLOYABILITY OFFICER

Employability Mentoring Project

Full Time (35 hours), Holidays: 25 days per year

35 hours at £22,968 Per annum

Duration:

Post will initially be until 30th June 2016, with extension subject to funding

Location:

This post will be based in Hamilton, but will require travel throughout South Lanarkshire.

Accountable to: Team Leader

Job Purpose:

To deliver a service to a high professional standard at all times.

To work with unemployed people who face considerable barriers to Employment. These barriers include: Lack of confidence; lack of qualifications and work skills; mental and / or physical health issues; history of substance misuse; experience of homelessness; history of offending behaviour.

The Employability Officer will support and provide guidance that will enable clients to move closer into the employment market and make them more job ready.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Make links with local businesses to recruit volunteer mentors and encourage opportunities for work placements and job opportunities.
  • Create a link between employability programmes locally and pass this information onto mentors.
  • Carry out reviews & risk assessments with both mentors and their mentees with Mentoring Co-ordinator.
  • Recruit, train and support clients through employability and work readiness programme.
  • Carry out a suitability & risk assessment and action plan for all participants with Mentoring Officer.
  • Link with mentors in line with individual action plans.
  • Link with outside agencies and identify work placements, training and opportunities which meet the needs of clients.
  • Support mentees through work placements.
  • Develop appropriate exit strategy for each mentees needs.
  • Deliver and assess a range of Employability workshops
  • Create and deliver presentations to various audiences.
  • Plan and organise job search sessions with young people.
  • Develop close liaisons with Job Centres; Personal Advisers; MCMC Advisors and relevant staff from partner agencies.

This post will require a full PVG Disclosure.

Employability Officer Person Specification

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications/ experience / Experience of engagement work with young people to support them back into employment.
Experience of designing and delivery of workshops / Degree or similar qualification in community development or a business related
Knowledge / Full knowledge and understanding of the Third Sector
Experience of working effectively with statutory/voluntary and external agencies
Experience of collaborative working with external agencies / Knowledge of Issues affecting unemployed people and their motivations, and in particular people with barriers.
Experience of having supported negotiation in or development of service specifications
Skills and abilities / Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation and reporting skills (written and oral)
Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to motivate others
High levels of planning and organisational skills, and monitoring/evaluating to ensure outcomes are fully delivered
Knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Ability to engage with young people to develop trusting relationships
Able to travel independently within the service area.
Able to act as a representative for the organisation externally
Commitment to and understanding of equal opportunities

To maintain high professional standards in all activities / Experience of performance management
