4.  Main purpose of the post

The Development Officer - Friends and Legacies, is an important part of Northern Ballet’s Development department. The team generates income from a range of different sources in support of the Company’s artistic, learning and outreach work, and our Academy. As we approach our 45th Anniversary year in November 2014, Northern Ballet has ambitious plans for growth and this role will play a key part in developing our ‘Friends’ programme and establishing our first ever legacy programme.

The Development Officer – Friends and Legacies will be responsible for reviewing the existing Friends programme at Northern Ballet and with support from the Director of Development, will significantly increase the number of regular givers and explore the opportunities for cross-marketing and uplifting gift levels. The role will also oversee the development of a longer-term legacy giving programme including competitor analysis, legacy marketing and communicating the importance of this new income stream to new and existing supporters.

This is a new role at Northern Ballet and the post holder will be joining a growing and dynamic team. The Development Officer – Friends and Legacies will be working closely with all areas of Northern Ballet Company including senior managers and key individual supporters and will report directly to the Director of Development.

This is a part-time, office based post (21 hours per week) and Northern Ballet is open to discussion around how these hours are worked

5.  Main duties and responsibilities

Working closely with the Director of Development, the key tasks will be to:

General

·  Raise an agreed sum annually from Northern Ballet Friends programme with budget set for 2014/15 at £52,000

·  Track income and progress through a developed phased budget and provide monthly reports to Director of Development

·  To work closely with the Research and Data Officer to analyse data for existing Friends supporters and identify key areas of growth in the programme

·  Review our existing Friends benefits and complete a competitor analysis

·  To service existing supporters and ensuring the highest standard of care

·  To work closely with Northern Ballet Head of Marketing to review existing supporter data and identify prospects for legacy marketing programme

·  Oversee a small marketing budget, to monitor spend and income generation against budget and provide regular reports to the Director of Development

Friends programme

·  Responsible for income generated from Northern Ballet Friends programme and develop a strategy to significantly increase the number of Friends over the coming years

·  Complete a competitor analysis and review the existing programme benefits to ensure a first-class experience for our Friends and that the benefits are cost effective for Northern Ballet

·  Ensure high standards of care for existing supporters and devise a ‘nursery’ programme for new recruits to the programme

·  Working with Development Manager – Corporates and Individuals, to identify individuals in the Friends programme who have the propensity to be uplifted

Legacies programme

·  To research legacies programmes at other leading Arts organisations and prepare a strategy for a new Legacies programme at Northern Ballet

·  Working with Director of Development and Northern Ballet Communications team, devise a legacies marketing strategy to be implemented in Q4 of 2014/15

·  Working with Finance team, oversee and manage income from legacy givers and ensure that appropriate and timely actions are taken

Development Team

·  To be an active member of the Development team, working closely with the Director of Development and colleagues to identify cross working and income generation opportunities

·  Working towards the agreed annual budget, play an active role in helping the Development team reach its overall target

Northern Ballet

·  Working with colleagues across the Company to promote the work of Northern Ballet – a powerhouse for inventive dance – and to uphold our principles, vision and values

6.  Personal specification

ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
EDUCATION
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or be able to demonstrate equivalent relevant experience
EXPERIENCE
Two years’ experience in managing a direct marketing programme or equivalent relevant experience in marketing, business development or data management / Experience preferably gained within the arts or charity sector
Evidence of ability to write good communications including letters and marketing materials / Experience in PR and Marketing
Track record of successfully managing individual relationship through face to face and telephone communication / Successful track record of securing new donations
Experience of managing income / expenditure budgets or have overseen basic financial tracking systems / Experience of membership schemes
Have previously worked with a CRM database or equivalent experience of managing data through IT systems / Experience of developing legacy campaigns
SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
Excellent written and oral communication skills including letter writing and producing marketing materials / Experience of identifying and initiating new opportunities to maximise fundraising revenue
Excellent analysis and data management skills
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills
The ability to work as part of a team and with other departments within Northern Ballet / Knowledge of digital and social media campaigns
The ability to work with supporters, manage their needs and expectations
Excellent administrative and organisational skills
Good working knowledge of IT programmes, including CRM databases, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel / Demonstrable interest in the arts sector
Ability to work flexibly and under pressure
Ability to discuss Northern Ballet’s work and aspirations with potential and existing supporters
Ability to work evenings and weekends (Lieu time offered)

7.  Contract Permanent - 21 hours per week

8.  Holidays 5 weeks per year (pro rata) + Bank Holidays

9.  Salary £22,000 (pro rata)
