Job Purpose and Objectives
The placement is designed to provide the intern with an opportunity to gain extensive experience of business development and marketing within investment management.
To offer an opportunity for extensive personal, professional and spiritual development as well as career and vocational development. To invest in, encourage and develop young adults into industry leaders.
To develop skills and experiences needed for future employment in the interns chosen field.
The business is made up of two parts. TheCentral Finance Board (manages money for the Methodist Church and Methodist charities) and Epworth Investment Management (manages money for all non-Methodist churches and charities) and they currently manage around £1.3bn. They invest on behalf of their charity clients in a range of company shares, bonds and cash deposits. These assets are invested to maximise the potential investment returns whilst meeting Christian ethical requirements.
The prime focus of the role will be to assist the Head of Business Development in delivering sales and marketing targets. The role will give the candidate an opportunity to participate in a broad range of interesting areas including sales, presentations, advertising, design, project management, conferences and PR.
You should anticipate it being a demanding role. It should also be enjoyable and training and support will be provided throughout the year.
A positive attitude, strong work ethic and excellent attention to detail are the key requirements.
The ONE Programme is part of the Youth Participation Strategy of the Methodist Church.

ONE Intern is a connexion wide one year internship programme for young people over the age of 21 based in Methodist churches, agencies and projects and, where appropriate, with related agencies, partners, and denominations with learning and development opportunities focussed on leadership and Methodist identity.
Line Management
The ONE Intern will be line managed by a Supervisor on the CFB team, whose responsibilities will be to:
- Become familiar with the work of the intern.
- Work with theintern to encourage them to respond to new challenges and opportunities in their line of work and in mission.
- Determine priorities for the work.
- Prepare a personal development plan with the intern.
- Ensure good communications between all the stakeholders groups and networks involved.
- Monitor and evaluate progress with the intern on a regular basis (meetings will take place monthly during the probationary period and quarterly thereafter).
- Act as a “sounding board” to the intern.
- Ensure that the intern receives suitable managerial support.
- Provide a progress report at the end of the period identifying the key learning from the year.

  1. Supporting the Head of Business Development with all aspects of this role.
  2. Updating marketing collateral eg. presentations, fact sheets, flyers, website. This will include overseeing the important compliance sign-off process.
  3. Development of targeted potential investor lists using a database.
  4. Researching prospects, the market and developing high quality pre-meeting briefs.
  5. Involvement in awide range of general projects eg. advertising, conferences,PR, supporting Board reporting.
  6. You will need to be prepared to undertake a wide range of activities – from the intellectually andemotionally challenging to the mundane. Flexibility and a cheerful disposition are going to be key!
  7. Any other duties, appropriate with the grade of the post.

Remuneration: / £21,000pa
Hours of Work: / 5 days per week
The normal hours of work will be decided by arrangement with the placement supervisor but should not exceed 35 hours per week without time in lieu should this need to take place on occasion. Some flexibility in working hours may be required due to the nature of this post. Payment for overtime is not given but employees are entitled to time off in lieu by arrangement.
Holiday Entitlement: / All interns:25 days
Plus Bank Holidays and an extra three days at Christmas and New Year.
Sick Pay: / Entitlement in accordance with the Methodist Council’s terms and conditions of employment
Probationary Period: / Appointments for lay employees are made subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period, normally three months.
Season Ticket: / Season ticket loans are available after the satisfactory completion of the probationary period.
