JOB DESCRIPTION: ASSISTANT HEADTEACHER – IMPROVING ACHIEVEMENT & STANDARDS

GRADE:Leadership L 11 - 15

Job Purpose:The Assistant Headteacher (Improving Achievement and Standards) is responsible for assisting the Headteacher with the leadership of the school as well asensuring the School has robust strategies, based on good practice found nationally, to maximiseachievement across all groups of students and especially those who are disadvantaged and have a Special Educational Need.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

This will include:

  • evaluating the School’s performance against national and local criteria,
  • designing strategies to narrow the achievement gap for our disadvantaged learners
  • analysing performance data
  • planning effective intervention strategies for underperforming students
  • as Raising Standards Leader holding middle leaders to account for the performance of their teams at each assessment cycle
  • working with the SENDCO to ensure that our students with Special Educational Needs are given every opportunity to achieve to the best of their ability
  • providing the staff they lead with clear directionand support, resulting in high performing teams that work together to achievechallenging and stretching objectives.
  • responsible for ensuring high quality learning is consistently experienced by students through effectivemonitoring, evaluation and review of progress and provision.
  • workingcollegiately with other members of the Senior Leadership Team to ensure the Improving Achievement and Standards strategic plan aligns with the vision and values of Scalby School, ensuring they remain aware of any changes locally ornationally, thus reviewing the strategy as appropriate.
  • managing the school’s Pupil Premium budget and using this funding to ensure that the achievement of disadvantaged students matches that of their peers.

KEY LEADERSHIP ACCOUNTABILITIES

Develop and implement strategic plan for Improving Achievement and Standards that aligns to Scalby School’s vision and values.

Ensuremiddle leaders understand and are actively implementing the key aspects of the school’s approach and methodology for improving achievement and standards.

Develop effective Wave 1 and wave 2 Raising Standards strategies

Lead Raising Standards meetings with subject Heads of Department after each Attitude to Learning cycle

Ensure whole school data is collected and effectively analysed in order to inform whole school improvement strategies.

Present data for Heads of Department, the Senior Leadership team and the Governing Body which accurately describes the school’s current performance.

Provide the Senior Leadership Team with regular progress updates to ensure they are fully aware ofsuccesses, issues, concerns and risks. The key focus of reports and updates will be achievementraising priorities and results and the evaluation of activities and outcomes.

Model the standards, values, expectations and ethos of the school, ensuring staff areaware of the vision and values and that they become part of day to day activities.

Participate in whole school planning and policy making cycles, including the development, executionand review of activities.

Collaborate internally and externally forging, positive productive working relationship, which provebeneficial to the school.

Plan and manage the school’s annual Parent’s Evenings for each year group.

Attend senior leadership meetings and school events as directed by the Headteacher.

Attend Local Governing Body meetings as appropriate.

Have a shared responsibility for staff support in relation to matters of student discipline andbehaviour and participate in and support staff in lunchtime duty rotas.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Fulfill all of the requirements and duties set out in the current Pay and Conditions Documents relating to:

  • the conditions of employment of teachers
  • Fulfill all of the responsibilities and duties required by the School’s policies and procedures
  • Achieve any performance criteria or targets related to the management post arising from the School’s
  • Performance Management arrangements
  • Adhere to the school’s Health and Safety Policy.
