Job Title: Cafe Assistant

Accountable to: Assistant Catering Manager and Catering Manager

Location: Leeds

Job Purpose:

To assist in the day to day running of the cafe.

To help maintain high standards of customer service and food presentation.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

·  Assist in food preparation and food delivery throughout the day.

·  Make all hot beverages including a range of coffees using espresso machine.

·  Provide a high quality of customer service at all times.

·  Experience in using the till and follow cash handling, cashing up and reconciliation procedures accurately as required

·  Check all transactions; cash, cheque and credit card

·  Ensure there are enough sandwiches/ cakes made, especially at busier times, and replenished throughout the day

·  Assist customers with queries in a prompt, professional, courteous and friendly manner, so that customer care standards are met and complaints kept to a minimum.

·  All food products are attractively displayed and all products correctly price

·  Liaise with colleagues so that service is efficient & effective

·  To ensure all areas are clean and tidy

·  Undertake all tasks as trained and directed so that high standards of health and safety and food hygiene are met following COSHH procedures.

·  Washing up, manually and by machine, keep the wash up and floor area clean throughout the day as required to set standards, taking out of boxes and rubbish

·  Ensuring all tables are cleared inside & outside as quickly as possible sweeping up as necessary

·  Ensure all aspects of security, fire and emergency are carried out, so that Age UK Leeds practices are adhered to.

·  Observe all health and safety at work regulations as set out by Age UK Leeds in accordance with its statutory obligations.

·  Use all equipment as trained observing all safe practices, so that accidents are avoided

·  Undertake a Basic Food Hygiene training course.

·  Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be requested of a Cafe Assistant.

·  To attend training courses as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential / Desirable
Experience of food preparation and food delivery in a busy catering environment / Holds Basic Food Hygiene certificate, full training will be given (if not)
Able to make a range of coffees and hot beverages using an espresso machine / Has cash handling experience
An understanding of the importance of delivering a high quality client focused service / Good written communication skills
Good verbal communication skills / Has experience in assisting the general public
Ability to use own initiative
Works well as part of a team
Open, approachable and friendly
Proven ability in carrying out instructions
Well presented at all times
Committed to maintaining the dignity, respect and independence of older people
