/ Independent Vice Chair
Maternity Voices, the Maternity Services Liaison Committee
Department / Maternity Voices (Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire) is an independent committee,
hosted by Bristol Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)
Responsible to / The Chair of Maternity Voices
Base / Working from home, the main duties of this post will be carried out through meetings and workshops with some preparation and follow up.
Grade and Salary / This is a voluntary position, for which expenses will be paid in accordance with Bristol CCG Lay Members expenses policy: £6.31 per hour for all meetings attended plus preparation time per meeting, travel expenses and carer expenses if appropriate.
Job Summary - what the role is designed to do /
  • Working closely with the Chair, to support her/him in providing leadership to Maternity Voices, the Maternity Services Liaison Committee for Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.
  • To take on the Chair’s responsibilities in her/his absence: to be the public face of the committee, chair meetings and represent the committee on other bodies.

Specific Duties and responsibilities
Clinical /
  • This position does not require any clinical responsibility.
  • The post holder should not be currently employed in the provision of maternity or neonatal services in the NHS.

Professional/
Job Role /
  • To support the Chair in providing leadership for Maternity Voices
  • To represent Maternity Voices on other bodies as required.
  • To develop/maintain a good understanding of the needs of women and their families who use maternity services and to ensure that the voice of service users is heard by commissioners and providers of services.
  • To be proactive and engage with groups who are unlikely to attend meetings or workshops.
  • To develop effective working relationships with commissioners, providers and independent, voluntary and community organisations with an interest in maternity services.

Organisational / To take on the role of the Chair in her/his absence or to provide assistance in the following:
  • To chair meetings and workshops of Maternity Voices.
  • To ensure that a programme of events is in place for Maternity Voices.
  • To plan meetings and set agendas (administrative support will be provided by Bristol CCG for this function).
  • To represent Maternity Voices at other meetings and networks within health and wider partnerships.
  • To maintain good knowledge of the service requirements for maternity services, and to review and comment on performance reports.

Communication

/
  • To represent Maternity Voices at public events, conferences and seminars.
  • To represent and promote Maternity Voices to local media organisations.
  • To ensure that the decisions of Maternity Voices are communicated as required.
  • To maintain contact with Maternity Voices members and support them in participating effectively in the Committee.
  • To contribute to the Maternity Voices website.

Education and Research /
  • There are no specific education and research duties for this role.

Managerial
. /
  • There are no formal responsibilities for managing staff equipment or resources in this role.
  • The post holder will receive support and supervision from the Chair.
