JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Accounting Specialist

Salary Range: Grade 39 – Min $45,253; Mid $53,239; Max $61,224

FLSA Status: Salary, Exempt

Reports To: Director, Finance

Summary: Performs general accounting activities including the preparation, maintenance and reconciliation of ledger accounts and financial statements. Provides support to the Director, Finance.

Responsibilities:

·  Ensure adherence to all financial policies of Waverly Utilities

·  Assist in development of annual budget

·  Maintain utility capital improvement records and calculate reimbursement resolution

·  Prepare monthly account reconciliations and journal entries

·  Prepare financial statements and other reports

·  Conduct internal auditing as scheduled

·  Review accounts receivable for timeliness of payment

·  Manage payroll processing

·  Calculate and post receipts to appropriate general ledger accounts

·  Update wide variety of accounting and energy schedules as needed

·  File appropriate payroll taxes with government agencies

·  Assist with other regulatory compliance filings

·  Assist in annual audit preparations

·  Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies:

·  Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance OR Associate’s degree in accounting with at least 5 years’ experience in an accounting capacity

·  Proficient in Excel

·  Knowledge of collections processes and procedures a plus

·  Project management skills a plus

·  A comprehensive knowledge of principles of accounting and auditing

·  Ability to adjust to multiple, shifting priorities and changes

·  Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate good judgment

·  Ability to independently resolve problems, research information, create solutions and make decisions based on facts and sound judgment.

·  Ability to keep others informed of changes; communicate relevant topics in a timely manner.

·  Ability to interpret directives and initiate appropriate actions to implement changes.

·  Ability to seek input from others in problem solving and decision making; understanding how and where to get answers to questions.

·  Ability to work independently and as part of a team; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

·  Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends as required.
