JMS 8th Grade Science Discipline Policy

In order to guarantee your child and all students in our classes the excellent educational climate they deserve, we have developed a discipline plan that will be used by the 8th Grade Science Wheel teachers.

This year there will be special emphasis on the “Three R’s”.

The Three R’s…..

1.  Respect Yourself

2.  Respect Others

3.  Respect Property

In the best interest of all students, we will not tolerate disruption of the teaching process. Students have choices: follow the rules and reap the benefits or misbehave and suffer the consequences. Students are expected to comply with the following rules.

1.  Students will be in their assigned seats with necessary materials when the tardy bell rings.

2.  Students will remain on task until two minutes prior to the end of class.

3.  Students will raise their hands to be recognized before speaking. Unnecessary talking is not allowed.

4.  Students will be prepared for class by bringing textbooks, notebooks, pens, pencils, paper, assignments, and any other required materials to class daily.

5.  Students will respect themselves and others by keeping hands, feet, and objects to themselves.

6.  Students will refrain from eating and drinking or chewing gum.

7.  Students will follow their teacher’s directions the first time they are given.

8.  Students will follow the dress code.

IN ADDITION, ALL POLICIES AND RULES STATED IN THE STUDENT HANDBOOK SHOULD BE REVIEWED AND FOLLOWED.

If a student chooses to break a rule, the following consequences will occur:

1.  Verbal warning/seat change and/or note home.

2.  Time out/parent notification

3.  Detention and parent notification

4.  Discipline referral to Assistant Principal

·  Students who cannot follow behavior rules may, at any time be sent to another classroom to complete assignments.

·  Violation of Rules 1, 6, or 8 will result in an automatic detention. Failure to serve a detention will result in 2 detentions. Failure to serve either of these detentions will result in an administrative referral.

SEVERE DISRUPTIONS WILL AUTOMATICALLY RESULT IN AN ADMINISTRATIVE REFERRAL

Appropriate behavior will be rewarded in many ways such as homework coupons, computer time, special privileges, special recognition, movies, field trips, etc.

Please discuss this discipline plan with your child. Feel free to contact Ms. Purcell or Mrs. Gautney if you have any questions. We may be reached at 745-7233.

Our goal is for you child to have the most rewarding educational experience possible. With students, parent, and teacher working together, we can achieve this and more. Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Gautney

Ms. Purcell
