Call to order: 5:47 pm

Officer Reports:

President’s Report – Gina Fink

Milk & Cookies and Positive Thoughts/Attitudes

Bylaws – Vote on Proposed Bylaws @ General Membership Meeting.

Benevity Causes update (workplace giving at Mike’s work) – Mike provides # of hours and we get a $ amount per hour, currently do not know how much it will be

Lunsford’s VA PTA EIN# 452237821 – does anyone need a copy of our 501(c)(3) Determination Letter? – Current one dated Dec. 10, 2015; Expires: Dec. 31, 2016.

Principal’s Report – Carrie Simms

  • Period 2 ends Thursday – next Friday is a teacher workday. Teachers should be contacting parents with problems their students may be having before then.
  • Likely snow cancellations coming up.
  • Google Expedition came and it was a big success, 200-300 students were involved last Thursday and really enjoyed it – this was done in conjunction with languages classes, math, science, and some English classes. They discovered the technology works better on android. Offers a 3D “field trip” type of experience.
  • Course selection for next year begins soon. There will be a parent coffee on this and the coffee will also be on the list serve. There will be a snow date set if it is cancelled – perhaps on Jan 30th.
  • One to the World projects for 1st semester are completed and a survey will be going out to some parents on the effectiveness of the program.

Treasurer’s Report – Julie Abel

Highlights of Budget (to date).Budget was reviewed including a discussion of the $13,000 forecasted shortfall and areas to cut expenses. Decision was made to hold off voting on any budget amendments related to the shortfall until later in the year once we have a better idea of our income. We will vote on a budget amendment at General for a $6000 increase in income and expenses for Laps For Lunsford event.

JML Beautification Day scheduled for Saturday, April 23rd @ 8 am to 12 noon.

  • A volunteer signup will go out in March.
  • Green Team Spring meeting – Wednesday, April 6th from 7-8pm. – all are invited.

VP Events – Anaheeta Minwalla

Loud@Lunsford with International Flair – Feb. 19th (Friday)

  • Deepti and Ellie Hsieh, The Wellness Connection – talk at this event
  • Union TKD is set to perform, looking for other performers
  • Games will be in gym, potluck tasting & golly waffles in the cafeteria, book fair in the library
  • Smiles Dental may sponsor the photo booth
  • Need more volunteers to help

Big Night Out (BNO) & Silent Auction – March 9th (Wed.)

  • One-to-the-World (OTTW) Expo - evolving focus
  • Date – still waiting to hear from Chorus, and Guitar, Jazz band can not do March 9th date, Strings has committed
  • More Silent Auction items/donations – brainstorm ideas (now) – Anaheeta passed out a large list of items that have been requested and is tracking various donations, we need more items
  • Need more volunteers to help

Laps for Lunsford – April 7th (Thurs.) & April 8th (Friday) – during P.E.

  • Brainstorm for more sponsors (looking for 4 more @ $1,000 or combination of $500 Gym Posters, $100 Parent sponsors).
  • Kravitz & Smiles/Loudoun dental plan to sponsor T-shirts – we need $6000 to sponsor the t-shirts
  • Bach 2 Rock has agreed to provide free DJ services

Enthusiastic PR for all three events (positive, repetitive, different avenues, 3-2-1 e-mail countdowns, 1 more hard-copy for Laps, etc.)

  • Focus choice(s) on businesses that helped with One-to-the-World initiative

Board decided to purchase a table for 10 at $400. We will be invited 2 PTA officers, 2 Staff, Kravitz, Union, DSFP, and Gum Spring Library – also possibly Sprout, Bach 2 Rock, and Dairy Queen or any STEM companies that helped with STEM day.
