Summer 2010 International Internship Opportunity with Butterflies in India

Program Description

The interns will work with an innovative, not-for-profit charitable organization, Butterflies New Delhi, which is dedicated to the care, education, and guidance of street and working children. In this 4-week intensiveJune-July internship, organizational, communication skills, leadership and teamwork fostered and developed in an exciting social change overseas environment that is developing rapidly.

Butterflies must expand professional development for the staff and enable communication and exchange between staff that is at present scattered in a dozen sites; to aid this, interns will work to develop analysis and measurement tools to allow for expansion, assessment, strategic planning and tracking of various programs. This internship has the possibility (and probability) of calling upon all the administrative, organizational, financial, and cooperative communication learning you have gained in college and work environment. It has the probability of developing and expanding more than your resume by fully engaging your talents and skills and challenging your experience.

Organization Description

Butterflies is a direct service, life-saving, life-changing, professionally-run charitable organization whose founders, workers, and sponsors are committed to the empowerment of thousands of children whose daily life is lived in the streets of New Delhi. The hands-on street level view of the Butterflies mission has attracted the attention and assistance of donors and volunteers from Europe, America and widely in South Asia for the ingenuity of and the empowering effect of the children’s savings bank and the regular children’s delegate meetings which debate the directions and policies of the community. A community organization for the defense of children’s rights--self-financing microfinance—practical education—mobile learning centers and computer training--emergency shelter and health—children’s helpline--Butterflies deals daily with thousands of children of diverse backgrounds.
