BAPTISMS
Baptisms are every Sunday at 1:00 PM. Parents are asked to call the Parish Center and speak with the Priest or Deacon who is on call and who will assist them in registering their child for Baptism. The Church assists the parents by offering instruction on the meaning, importance, and responsibilities of the sacrament of Baptism. A Pre-Jordan Baptismal Program for helping parents prepare for the spiritual birth of their child is held on the fourth Sunday of the month in the Spirituality Center following the Noon Mass.

Couples planning to marry are asked to contact a Parish priest to make arrangements for a wedding.

Dear Parishioners,
Happy Easter!
The resurrection of Jesus demonstrated the greatest power ever seen on earth – the power to raise the dead to life!
Note the effects that the resurrection also had on the disciples. The disciples went from experiencing fear to courage; despair to hope; anxiety to calm; turmoil to peace; sadness to joy.
As you look back on the season of Lent, I pray that your experience of the merciful love of Jesus has enriched your faith.
I pray that your encounters with Jesus, during the season of Lent, were an opportunity for Jesus to grace you with healing, recovery, resurrection and new life. How blessed we are to be given a share in the greatest power which continues to raise us up.
May our troubled and turbulent world, may sad and sorrowful hearts, may addicted and anxious spirits, may broken and battered lives become open to Jesus whose compassionate mercy will pick them up and carry them to the green pastures and refreshing waters of God’s love where they will experience healing, recovery and new life.

Renewal of Baptismal Promises
Christians are called to implement the resurrection into their lives by constant moral effort.
There is in our world a power at work that envies, that starves people, that exploits others, that kills. There is a force at work in our world that tires,
isolates, and despairs. That force is evil. Evil is the culprit that robs and wounds the human soul.
In the face of evil, we remember that the Resurrection is not merely a past event confined to long ago. The power of the resurrection is at work:
whenever justice is triumphing over the instincts of domination;
whenever grace is winning out over the power of sin;
whenever love is getting the better of selfish interests;
whenever hope is resisting the lure of cynicism or despair.
And so, on Easter, we renew our baptismal promises. We say no to evil and Satan and refuse to be mastered by sin: we proclaim our best to rise with Christ and live more fully our Christian life.

On behalf of all who participated in our Holy Week Services, I wish to thank all our liturgical ministers and all who worked behind the scenes to make our services as beautiful as they were.
Thank you, liturgy committee, for your planning, preparation, and for coordinating your individual ministries. Thank you Mrs. Leonetti, choirs (Adult and Children’s), cantors, and musicians for all your practicing and rehearsals and for the music that lifted our hearts and inspired our prayer. Thank you lectors, greeters, ushers, altar servers, decorators, cleaners, sacristans, maintenance staff, school faculty, CCD catechists and staff, Pastoral Staff and Presiders – the input of each and every one demonstrates that liturgy is indeed the work of the Church which enables the Assembly to worship, to lift their hearts and minds with praise and thanks to God.
Easter Flowers and Decorations
The beautiful spring flowers, plants, and lilies which grace our sanctuary and Church have been made possible through the generous donations of many. Please remember our benefactors in your prayers. Many have asked that we remember their deceased loved ones in prayers. May the deceased for
whom we have been asked to pray be graced with the fullness of resurrection and new life in heaven.
Meaning behind Easter Decorations
I wish to recognize and thank all who have so generously contributed to the decorations and flowers in the Church. Our Church has been decorated, not merely to have it look nice, but to express our faith and gratitude and also to inspire all who worship here.
By rising from the dead, Jesus has been victorious over the forces of sin, evil, and death. Jesus invites us to share in this new life. The new life which Jesus has and shares with us is symbolized in lilies and spring flowers, in bulbs and plants, in splashes of color.
The image of flowers, spring, Easter, and new life speaks to us about what Jesus does in our hearts and souls. By opening our minds and hearts to Jesus, by seeking his forgiveness for our sins we experience Jesus causing new love, new peace, and new faith to flower in us.
Easter celebrates the new life which thrives and flourishes because of the Resurrection. Our communion with Christ enables faith, hope, and love to flourish within us.
Race for Education
Saint Anselm School is having an exciting fundraising event called “Race for Education.” The goal is a minimum of $35,000. Hopefully, $50,000!!!
Race for Education is a Walk-A-Thon to raise funds for essential educational needs for Saint Anselm School. There is a green-colored flier in this bulletin asking you to participate.
The Race for Education will take place on Friday, April 24th.

Saint Anselm Parish remains committed to having a school that offers quality Catholic Education from Pre K (4 year old), Kindergarten thru 8th Grade.
If you know of a family with a Pre K 4 year old, or a child eligible for Kindergarten or 1st grade, please tell them about our school. Anyone who would like a tour of the school is invited to call the school office and request a tour.
Carnival Chances
Carnival Chances will be available next week in the back of the Church. Please pick up your chances as well as any neighbor you may know. The chances will be arranged in alphabetical street order, then numerical order.

Annulments
Although separated and divorced Catholics who remain single can continue to go to confession and communion, they need to be aware of the care and support that the Church wishes to extend to them. Also, Catholics who were previously divorced and have been remarried by a Justice of the Peace or Protestant Minister should seek an annulment so that their present marriage can be blessed by the Church. The Archdiocesan Tribunal is available to help people seeking an annulment. Call 215-587-3750.
Retrouvaille is a program that helps couples in hurting marriages put the pieces back together and rebuild loving relationships. If your marriage is tearing the two of you apart, if there is little or no meaningful communication, Retrouvaille may be able to help you. For more information, call 1-800-470-2230.

Celebrating 50 Years

Mrs. Geraldine Murphy
Principal – Saint Anselm School
On Thursday, April 9th, Saint Anselm School will honor and celebrate Mrs. Murphy, our school Principal, who has been engaged in Catholic School Education for 50 years. During the 8:30 AM Mass, we will thank God for Mrs. Murphy. There will be an Assembly at 1:00 PM in the Church Hall celebrating her 50 years as a Catholic School Teacher and Principal.
Following her graduation from Little Flower High School in 1965, Mrs. Murphy began her Catholic School Teaching career by entering into the Cadet Program which the Archdiocesan Office for Catholic Schools used at the time to attract Teachers.
While teaching, Mrs. Murphy earned her B.S. in Elementary Education from Saint Joseph College and her M.A. in Administration and Supervision from Villanova University.
Mrs. Murphy was a teacher for 24 years. She has taught at Holy Innocents, Holy Name, Saint Bartholomew, All Saints, and Nativity BVM. She taught students in 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 8th grade.
Mrs. Murphy’s ministry and service to Catholic Schools as a Principal has had a span of 26 years. She was Principal of Saint Charles Borromeo School in Cinnaminson, NJ for 10 years; Mother of Divine Grace School in Port Richmond for 2 years; Saint Anselm School for the last 14 years.
Mrs. Murphy’s leadership has enabled the Catholic identity of Saint Anselm School, fostered by the I.H.M. Sisters, to continue. Her efforts have empowered the Lay Faculty to offer quality Catholic Education in an environment permeated with Gospel values. Mrs. Murphy’s focus is fixed on students, desiring that each and everyone develops academically, spiritually, emotionally.
Our school’s Fine Arts program and activities, technology use and education, Discipline With Purpose program, Middle States Accreditation, Pre K 4 year old Early Childhood Education program, Safe Environment, Common Core curriculum reflect Mrs. Murphy’s vision and the cooperation and support she has received from a dedicated faculty and staff.
May God bless and bring to fulfillment all the good that Mrs. Murphy has done in Catholic School Education as a Teacher and Principal.

K – 8th GRADE
The George & Mary Kremer Foundation is offering student grants to students entering Kindergarten through 8th grade in September, 2015. Applications are available at the Parish Center. To qualify, your income must not exceed $44,123 per year for a household of four or less with an additional $7,511 for each additional family member over the number of four residing in your household. Pastoral Planning to Keep Saint Anselm Parish Vibrant and Sustainable
This past November, our Pastoral Council convened a Parish Assembly during which 122 parishioners responded and shared ideas on a series of questions. The questions that were raised were a means for us to look closely at Saint Anselm Church and School. Participants imagine Jesus standing before us, speaking words – we have heard in the Gospel – but speaking them now so as to direct the future of Saint Anselm Parish to keep us vibrant and sustainable – to keep us from closing.
Participants at the Assembly and hopefully, all of you, recognize that The Roman Catholic community of St. Anselm Parish in Far Northeast Philadelphia is committed to living the gospel message of Jesus Christ. In imitation of Christ, we provide opportunities for spiritual growth, quality Catholic teaching for people of all ages, and assistance to the poor, the sick, and the burdened.
Challenges
This year 2015, as well as the other 10 years in this 2nd decade of the 21st Century, places hurdles and challenges before us which we need to face and to confront. We are called to live life with Gospel values in a society where many do not. We live in a time when many registered parishioners do not come to weekly Mass. While many people are involved in the life and activity of the parish, many are not. While many financially contribute generously and sacrificially to the parish, many do not.
Challenged to live the gospel message of Jesus Christ, we, as the worshipping and practicing members of Saint Anselm Parish, must strive to reach out to the non-practicing, must strive to involve our youth in parish activities – must strive to motivate all to contribute time, talent, and to be fiscally responsible, providing the resources so that the Parish can operate and function. Not to do so would cause dire consequences.
Goals
In light of all that was discussed at the Parish Assembly, as well as comments before and after Masses, and observations that have been shared in your circle of friends and family, the Pastoral Council, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit has discerned that Evangelization and Development are needed.
For the next 5 years, in addition to doing all that the Parish has been doing, we will focus on Evangelization and Development. Doing so will enable us to face our challenges so that Saint Anselm Parish may thrive and flourish.
Evangelization
As people who have known and experienced the presence and power of Jesus Christ in our lives, we are called to tell others this good news. At Easter, we are called to tell others of how the merciful love of Christ has graced us with new life enabling us to live life as God envisions.
