Jessi’s Column

I ended a rough emotionalsummer with afall that did not tip off that easy either. It was really like football season for my health; my Cerebral Palsy started acting up the first weekend.I was helping out a youth league that I have a passion for when suddenly I was having seizures. I do not remember them or what happened, that was the hardest part. I was rushed to the hospital and admitted; the worst feeling was feeling like I let so many down; my brother Greg mostly, because it was only his second day back to Ohio to visit.

I was very scared because I could not remember a lot of what was going on. One of my best friends Cathy gave me a sock monkey. I took him everywhere; I named him “Timmy”. My favorite time was when I went to see Luke Bryan in concert with my friend Lisa early in August. I was dancing with that sock monkey! Yep I’m crazy! Well, Timmy got lost in the hospital – everyone said he ran away! So my friends gave me two new sock monkeys, and I named the new monkeys after them! HA!

I was so grateful for my mom and AuntTheresa who were always there by my side, but I wanted to get better fast. My friends from the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields were so good to me; I wasafraid they wouldn’t want anything to do with me again. I was so blessed by so many that showed that they cared. One of my best friends came everyday. Thank you Steve, you mean the world to me. I also felt very blessed by so many others, many from the fields. There are a few I would love to give a shout-out and a huge thank you to; Damon, Tricia, Shirley, Susan and Lisa and Jon. Along with many other friends was deeply touch during a painful time of my life. One thing for sure I did not like missing my dog Anne’s birthday. I was still in the hospital and missed celebrating with her. No dogs allowed in the hospital!

It was not about the gifts or flowers, even though they were a true blessing. What really matters is to see how many care about me. I made a few new amazing friends that surprised me with a Brandon Phillips autographed ball that says “Get well soon”. I never expected that! I just wanted to get better faster!

Being in the hospital, it would have been easy for many to say “I give up”, but that were not me. I wanted to get back out there and give back and help as much as I could. I have to take it easy and not push myself too hard. My family and friends were the main reason I was able togetthrough this, always helping me. They wanted to see me smile!
