JERSEY FRESHWATER ANGLING ASSOCIATION

Match Report 2015 Season

The 2015 match season was a tale of some big weights and generally good fishing all around.

It started with Andy Gray winning the Liberation match with a great weight of 28-12-0 including some big Bream. The season was finished with a superb weight of 71-13-0 (a new Jersey match record) by Tom Dixon in only 3 hours of the Fur and Feather match at Les Mielles). This was made up of 9 Bream taken on the feeder, a cracking catch.

During the year there we're some good double figure weights, by Tom Dixon , including 34-6-0 in the George Mitchell and 35-5-0 in the Millbrook Trophy.Scott Roberts also had some nice results with 28-12-0 in the Jack A Court and 14-0-0 in the Black Ice Trophy.

The flip side was a winter league match in March at the golf course where ten of Jersey's finest all blanked, entry money was returned so smiles all round. The average anglers fishing the points league and trophy matches was around 12 to 13, a little bit down on previous years.

Overall though the fishing was great with decent Roach & Skimmer catches as well as the big Bream and a few Carp.

On the international front the JFAA have had a good year this year. 5 members represented CIFFA at the World Championships in Slovenia last year Dean Stone, Greig Brown, Garry Crisp, Carl Waye and Shaun Rankin. Garry crisp was the stand out performer with a section win in the Sunday morning. , This is a great achievement on the World Stage only 2 other people have managed this in CIFFA history. (Greig Brown, Andy Gray)

The JFAA also had 4 members to represent CIFFA in a Maver challenge match in Nantes they were Dean Stone, Mel Hales, Carl Waye and Jason Holley making his debut for CIFFA. Jason was the top performer in this competition in the team event and the individual finishing 4th in his section. This is a great result for Jason on his first match abroad and fishing to international rules keep it up Jason. 4 JFAA anglers again represented CIFFA for a Sensas challenge match near Chartres as well.

Greig Brown and Carl Waye won a Milo carp pairs match with a combined weight of 83 kilo qualifying for the French semi final but were unable to fish this as they were at the World Championships at the time. Greig fishing for a French team won his section in both matches at the Brittany team championships helping his team to win the competition and qualifying for the French National final, his team finishing in 17th position in this. Greig also won the Brittany waggler championships in October then a week later he won the Brittany mixed discipline championships. This makes him 2 times Brittany Champion (3x if you count the club one as well) .This is the first time this has happened in Brittany. To get to these Brittany championships Greig had to gain promotion this year from the 35 dept 2nd and 1st division in the mixed event and for the Waggler Championships Greig won the 35dept competition the year before to qualify.-well done to all.
