National Rehabilitation Administration Association’s
Jerome R. Lorenz Endowed Scholarship Fund
for Future Leaders in the Field of Rehabilitation
The National Association for Rehabilitation Leadership (Association) hereby gives to the Southern Illinois University (University) Foundation $20,000 to establish an endowed scholarship fund to be used to benefit students entering or enrolled in the Rehabilitation Administration degree program at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
The endowed fund to be established will be known as the “National Rehabilitation Administration Association’s Jerome R. Lorenz Endowed Scholarship Fund for Future Leaders in the Field of Rehabilitation” (Scholarship).
- The original sum, together with any future amounts added for this purpose from any source, shall be held and invested as the principal of this fund unless written instructions from the donor (the National Association for Rehabilitation Leadership) specify that any future gift(s) be added to the corresponding current fund for the purpose of providing a larger scholarship.
- The income from this fund will be used for an annual award of $500 for a graduate student entering or majoring in the Rehabilitation Administration degree program at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. The actual amount of the award will be reviewed annually by the Association Board and may be adjusted up or down by the will of the Board.
- The scholarship is to be awarded to the most worthy candidate seeking the award, based upon his or her potential contribution as a leader in the field.
- The award of the scholarship shall be made jointly by a team of three comprised of the Chairperson of the Rehabilitation Institute (or a person designated to be a member of the team by the Chairperson), the President of the National Association for Rehabilitation Leadership, and one other person chosen by the Board of Directors of the National Association for Rehabilitation Leadership.
- Preference shall be given to students or prospective students who have published research or other published original scholarly writing in the field of rehabilitation administration and students or prospective students who intend to pursue an academic career in not-for-profit administration.
- The scholarship recipient must agree to submit at least one research article or other original scholarly writing to the Journal of Rehabilitation Administration during the year in which the award is made.
- Should the income from this fund fail to reach $500 in any single year, the award will be deferred until the next year in which the combined income reaches $500.
- Any income from this fund exceeding $500 in any single year will added to the principal of this fund and invested per clause 1 above, unless the fund exceeds $500 by any multiple of $500, in which case multiple awards may be made by the will of the Association Board.
- Should no worthy candidate seek or be selected for the award in any single year, all income from the fund will be added to the principal of this fund and invested per clause 1 above.
- For purposes of investment only, the monies of this fund may be pooled with other funds of the foundation.
- Southern Illinois University will advertise and promote the scholarship will full recognition to the National Association for Rehabilitation Leadership. The University will coordinate publicity with the Association on an annual basis.
- Scholarship awardees will be announced during Southern Illinois University at Carbondale’s annual Honors Day. Association Board members will be invited to attend the ceremony.
