METER READER
  1. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Meter Reader will serve the members and support the goals of Jefferson Energy Cooperative byeffectively and efficiently reading meters, locating sources of service interruption or other trouble,connecting and disconnecting member/consumer services. Develops and promotes adherence to all established safety rules, regulations and practices.

  1. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
A.Reports to: Meter Reader Supervisor

B.Directs: None

  1. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Reads meters (digital, clock dial, demand) and re-checks meter readings upon request.
  1. Handles all field disconnections for non-payment, returned checks, broken arrangements.
  1. Provides information for periodic field surveys as needed for Billing, Marketing, and Line Services.
  1. Performs routine connects and disconnects when necessary as requested by the Meter Reader Supervisor.
  1. Provides information to the Meter Reader Supervisor regarding meter route/cycle structure revisions to increase efficiency of daily meter reading tasks.
  1. Provides daily information on “Hazardous Observations” obtained during the reading of their daily routes.
  1. Reports any suspicious electricity diversion observations to office personnel for follow up and to the Meter Reader Supervisor for field follow up procedures.
  1. Assists line crews on “float days” (non-meter reading days) if regularly scheduled duties are completed and if approved by the Meter Reader Supervisor.
  1. Distributes any necessary or required literature to all Members in conjunction with their daily meter reading function.
  1. Must be knowledgeable regarding all JEC programs offered to the member/consumer—i.e. Marketing products and services, Methods/Terms of Payment, etc.
  1. Responsible for the care, upkeep, and reporting of vehicle problems of assigned company vehicle.
  1. Responsible for monitoring availability and replenishing materials needed on a daily basis by the Meter Reading/Field Service Rep. Team (i.e. colored seals, standard seals, door notices, meters, etc.)
  1. Assists Members in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner.
  1. Attends job training and safety meetings.

NOTE: The above are major responsibilities of this position. They are not intended to cover each aspect of the position as the scope and duties of a given position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of JEC. The basic requirement of every position is to perform all tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

The METER READER shall be required to perform any other duties assigned in order to fulfill the objective of the cooperative.

EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS

  1. GEMC: To attend safety training.
  1. Members/Consumers: To provide information regarding electric service.

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

METER READER

Job Knowledge, Training and Experience:

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent;

Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred:

Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License;

Previous Electrical Wiring/Construction Experience;

Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation;

ITS certificate;

Flagman certification.

Trainee:Zero to six months of progressive experience in reading meters and learning JEC service area; connecting and disconnecting service and office procedures, which coordinate with these functions.

MR I:1-2 year’s experience in Meter Reading with competency and accuracy,

ability to finish routes in an efficient and timely manner, accurate completion of paperwork in conjunction with service orders when needed,

become more proficient in communication with other departments and member/consumer needs, increase ability to become aware of hazardous field observations.

MR II: 3-5 years experience in Meter reading with competency and accuracy, and appropriate completion of paperwork, complete comfort with JEC service territory knowledge to provide input on route/cycle efficiency, assist Line Services in various tasks, proficiency in the ability to recognize theft detection and hazardous observations, proficiency in daily tasks of the Field Service Rep.

MR III:More than 5 years experience in the above described duties, ability to fill in for the Field Service Rep. at all times, ability to oversee competence of the team and guide other team members with less experience, be knowledgeable of all routes of the entire team.

Required:

Must be able to operate office equipment.

Must have excellentcommunication skills.

Must be able to produce accurate and detailed documentation.

Must possess excellent hand-eye coordination.

Must be able to meet deadlines under pressure.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

This position requires 95% outside work in all weather conditions.

Must be available for overtime work due to outages, reconnection of service and otherelectric service-related problems.

Frequently required to walk, stand, bend and stoop. Due to equipment (ladders) weight limits, must weigh 280 lbs. or less. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

After an offer of employment has been made, the cooperative requires a physical, whichwill include drug testing.
