JOB DESCRIPTION

DEPARTMENT:KI BOIS Head StartFLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY- The Part Time Teacher Aide is responsible to assist full time teaching staff in the objectives of the Head Start Program in the center to which they are assigned. The Part Time Teacher Aide is directly responsible to the Teacher or Center Director. This is a temporary position for a specific need and/or length of time.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Following KI BOIS Head Start guidelines concerning discipline as stated in the Program Plan.

Assisting full time teaching staff in maintaining a clean and healthy learning environment, conducive to learning.

  1. Sharing in the responsibility in implementing a daily safety check of grounds and daily and weekly cleaning schedule.
  1. Assisting in recording keeping as directed by Center Director or Teacher.
  1. Abiding by all rules and regulations as set forth by KI BOIS Community Action, as stated in the Personnel Policies and Procedures.
  1. Meeting all Day Care Regulations, including Behavior and Guidance.
  1. Cleaning and changing child's clothes who has accidentally soiled self or is disabled and cannot control body functions.
  1. Working as a member of a team to ensure continuity of curriculum and a high standard of quality in all classrooms assigned to in the center.
  1. Recognizing and encouraging acceptable behavior.
  1. All other duties as assigned by Center Director or Teacher.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age; and have a High School Diploma or GED; or have completed the 10th grade and are in the process of obtaining a GED for a period not to exceed 12 months.
  2. Must have current TB Test.
  3. Must have a valid Oklahoma Drivers License and proof of liability insurance.
  4. Must obtain at least 20 clock hours of formal training per year to maintain PDL (Professional

Development Ladder) as required by DHS Licensing.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL HEAD START STAFF

STANDARDS OF CONDUCT

I agree to comply with the following Standards of Conduct:

(i) To support children’s well-being and prevent and address challenging behavior;

(ii) Do not maltreat or endanger the health or safety of children, including, at a minimum, that staff must not:

(A) Use corporal punishment;

(B) Use isolation to discipline a child;

(C) Bind or tie a child to restrict movement or tape a child’s mouth;

(D) Use or withhold food as a punishment or reward;

(E) Use toilet learning/training methods that punish, demean, or humiliate a child;

(F) Use any form of emotional abuse, including public or private humiliation, rejecting, terrorizing, extended ignoring, or corrupting a child;

(G) Physically abuse a child;

(H) Use any form of verbal abuse, including profane, sarcastic language, threats, or derogatory remarks about the child or child’s family; or,

(I) Use physical activity or outdoor time as a punishment or reward;

(iii) Respect and promote the unique identity of each child and family and do not stereotype on any basis, including gender, race, ethnicity, culture, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or family composition;

(iv) To comply with program confidentiality policies concerning personally identifiable information about children, families, and other staff members in accordance with subpart C of part 1303 of this chapter and applicable federal, state, local, and tribal laws; and,

(v) Ensure no child is left alone or unsupervised by staff, consultants, contractors, or volunteers while under their care.

FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE ABOVE

STANDARDS OF CONDUCT WILL BE

GROUNDS FOR IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL

Other Essential Requirements:

1.Must actively supervise children according to KI BOIS Active Supervision Procedure.

2.Able to lift, carry and hold children or objects up to 50 pounds. Physically able to stoop, bend, kneel, etc. to perform duties of the job.

3.Follow KI BOIS Head Start Dress Code.

4.Practice good hygiene daily, using proper handwashing techniques and universal precautions, according to KI BOIS procedures.

5.Possess a kind and caring attitude, dependable, energetic, communicative and non-judgmental.

6. Sit with children at mealtimes, eating the same meals.

7. Assist in recruitment of children for enrollment.

8. Work as a part of the KI BOIS team, and as an advocate for Head Start, accepting and implementing constructive criticism and recommendations for improvement.

9. Report all safety issues, mistreatment of children or inappropriate actions of co-workers to immediate supervisor or other administrative staff.

10. Willing to be transferred to another work site in order to meet the needs of the Agency.

11. Comply with Head Start Performance Standards, DHS Licensing Requirements,

KI BOIS Personnel Policies and Procedures and Job Description, including attending training as required.
