PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Data AnalystIntern must have a solid understanding of data collection systems and software, business functional areas and business management issues that enables him/her to query data, develop related reports and refine data based on further analysis by stakeholders.

The Data AnalystIntern starts projects by listening to the end user describe an informationrequest. He/She will ask questions to define the data that will be needed for analysis and reporting. He/She will have a strong understanding of database structures and will be able to use one or more query languages such as SQL, MS Access or MS Excel.

The Data AnalystIntern is expected to provide insight and recommendations to management based on data from multiple retail pharmacies. This position must meet tight deadlines and manage to completion a variety of tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  1. Collaborate with end users to understand data reporting needs. Compile and maintain necessary detailed reports using data reporting tools and provide insight/recommendations based on findings when appropriate.
  2. Provide support to management by collecting and analyzing data and reporting results based on the needs of end users.
  3. Develop reports and analyze related data for all departments to assist company personnel in meeting business objectives (i.e. 340B, pharmacy dispensing system, central site)
  4. Develop automated routines, where possible, for extracting requested information from data collection systems.
  5. Monitor and maintain integrity of dispensing system data.
  6. Acquiring data from primary or secondary data sources and developing/maintaining databases/data systems.
  7. Provide and maintain ongoing reports for various business departments.
  8. Identify, analyze and interpret trends or patterns in data sets related to retail pharmacies.
  9. Filter and “clean” data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct problems.
  10. Work with management toprioritizebusiness and information needs.
  11. Locate and define new process improvement opportunities.
  12. Provide training to personnel as needed to build consistency and accuracy in data collection systems.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Limited indirect supervisory responsibilities related to planning and follow up on work with retail pharmacy personnel primarily related to data accuracy and consistency throughout the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • AA in Computer Science or Management Information Systems
  • Advanced knowledge and work experience as a business data analyst.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages and databases.
  • Stronganalytical skillswith the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required including the ability to communicate professionally to both office personnel and retail pharmacy personnel.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and decision-making skills.

LANGUAGE ABILITY

Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write complex correspondence using proper grammar. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to vendors and employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculationsand apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

COGNITIVE DEMANDS

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, meet deadlines in a fast-paced workenvironment.
