PhD StudentDEFENSE CHECK LIST

NOTE that no defenses should be scheduled in July and August due to administrative and academic schedules.

Pre defense

__1. Student sets defense date and time with committee and books room through or (Cabot 108b, Cabot 102, the Isobe Room (Mugar 251F) or the Murrow Room (G210) are totally wired and Isobe (int’l) and Murrow (nat’l) have phones) and lets Jenifer and Deirdre Smith know of date/place/time.

__2. Checks to see there is no title change from what was approved at defense proposal stage or in a subsequent petition(if significant, must have PHD Comm. approval, otherwise email approval from your chair is fine, listing old and new titles).

__3. Student fills out attached Defense Scheduling Form for committee to sign (or approve via email to Jenifer) and sends to Jenifer B-P (JBP)/Deirdre Smithat least 8 days prior to defense date.

Post defense

__4. Student reads congratulatory letter which explains procedures for graduating (explains how to send e copy of dissertation to Fletcher Dissertation Sitebefore the third Friday in April for May graduation and by first Friday in Jan., Aug., and Oct. for Feb., Aug., Nov. graduation date.)NOTE: Please do NOT leave everything until the last day as Miriam Seltzer has to approve all dissertation submissions and let Nora McMillan know that you are approved by that date before you will be cleared to graduate.

__5. Returns “Degree Petition Form” to Registrar’s Office immediately after defense.

__6. Returns “Survey of Earned Doctorates” to JBP by the time e copy of dissertation is sent.

__7. Sends an electronic copy of dissertation to Fletcher Dissertation Site.
