JBG, Klein Enterprises Unveil 6100 Wabash Avenue
Baltimore, Md. (January 14, 2014) –The JBG Companies and Klein Enterprises this morning unveiled 6100 Wabash Avenue, a new twin-building Social Security Administration facility near Reisterstown Metro Station. Congressman Elijah Cummings and BaltimoreMayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake joinedtop federal officials and other community leaders for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the state-of-the art complex which will replace Social Security’s Metro West facility.
“Today is about celebrating the ongoing revitalization of this community,” Cummings said. “The opening of 6100 Wabash represents not just a fresh start for the Social Security Administration, but a catalyst for future development and job creation in the area.”
City Council Member Rikki Spector; Carolyn W. Colvin, Acting Commissioner of Social Security; Sara Manzano-Diaz, Regional Administrator for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) of the Mid-Atlantic Region; and Dominick Murray, Secretary of Business and Economic Development for the State of Maryland also attended the event.
“With its proximity to Reisterstown Metro, this new facility demonstrates the importance of expanding transit-oriented development in Baltimore,” Mayor Rawlings-Blake said. “When federal, state and local agencies embrace transit-oriented development, such projects directly improve the lives of thousands of Baltimore commuters.”
The JBG Companies and Klein Enterprises developed the 538,000-square-foot, twin-building facility on an 11-acre campus in northwest Baltimore directly opposite the Reisterstown Metro Station. It features two office buildings, 5 and 7 stories respectively, with supporting components organized around a central atrium space, along with an adjacent parking garage and child care center. GSA has leased this facility for a 20-year term for Social Security Administration operations.

An array of environmentally friendly elements, including a green roof and a large park area, serve as an industry example of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and support JBG’s goal to obtain LEED Silver certification, which is on track for January 2015.
The Reisterstown Metro Station is one of 14 sites designated across the Governor Martin O'Malley under legislation to promote transit-oriented development. The Maryland Department of Transportation entered into an agreement with GSA to locate the Social Security office on 11 acres of the station property, which helps the federal government achieve its sustainability goals and the state grow transit ridership and its economy.
Developed and owned by JBG in a partnership with Klein Enterprises, 6100 Wabash was designed by project architect AECOM. Clark Construction oversaw construction efforts for this project.
