Please send Mr. Kennedy an email at acknowledging that you have seen both the schedule and expectations for the Jazz Band. Your address will be used to make an accurate list for future correspondence. I will also be using the Remind app for last minute text announcements this year. Please sign up for that as well. Thank you.
Jazz Band Expectations
Attendance
All members of Jazz Band are required to attend all rehearsals and performances. Each member of the group plays an important role in the ensemble, and if the person is not present the group, as a whole, is affected. Illness or family emergencies are acceptable excuses for missing scheduled events. But even excuses like illness or conflicts in schedule can only be used so many times. If any student misses more than 4 rehearsals they will be cut from the Jazz Band regardless of reason. All performances are mandatory.
Behavior
Jazz Band is a public display of the students at PenndaleMiddle School. The students in Jazz Band do not only represent themselves, but Penndale and the NorthPennSchool District as a whole. Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. Any inappropriate behavior on Jazz Band Field Trips or during Jazz Festivals will result in immediate consequences. Depending on the severity of the infraction, the offending student may be cut from the ensemble. Also, the student should expect rules and regulations of the Discipline Code to be enforced.
Practice
Jazz Band is selected by audition. Therefore, I expect a high standard of performance. Students are expected to practice at home and come to rehearsals prepared. Any student who repeatedly comes to practice unprepared will be cut from the ensemble.
Questions and Concerns
Over the course of the year, questions may arise having to do with music, schedule, or any other host of topics. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. My e-mail address . Also, my website is a good resource for information regarding Jazz Band events and schedule. You can get to my webpage by going to the district site, then to the Penndale webpage, then to teacher webpages, and finally to my name. Thank you for taking the time to read these expectations, and I am sure that this will be a great year of musical growth, character building, and fun in the Jazz Band.
Sincerely,
Mr. Kennedy
