LGIFR, our on-island fire and emergency medical service, also communicates with its members (all of us who own property on LGI) via email, and needs help in compiling a complete list. May we share your email address with LGIFR? Our policy is not to share any of your information without your consent. If you do not wish us to do so, please email me at

LGPOA met on January 22nd. The following committees gave reports

  • Chapel: the chapel committee has cleaned up the area around the chapel and has arranged for a minister, Reverend Wendy Shullenbarger, to conduct non-denominational services at 10:30AM each Sunday. The committee is working with the owners of the chapel (the Preserve II Homeowners’ Association) to make the chapel available for island events.
  • Environmental: Please contact Susan Leydon at 698-0772 if you come across an injured bird or other animal.

The LGI Advisory Committee met on January 14th. The Dock Committee is still in the process of negotiating with the DEP about the problems with LGI docks. The proposed LGI zoning ordinance has not yet been passed by the county, due to a delay in the county’s passing its comprehensive plan. The next meeting will be on February 11th.

LGIFR held its annual meeting on January 15th. Chief Pete Reilly presented a comprehensive plan for fighting a fire at every home on the island and a list of equipment needed to do so. The board voted to implement this plan as its budget allows. Chief Pete reported that LGIFR had responded to 76 calls in 2010 (starting with its inception on May 6th). As of February 1st, Chief Pete and his wifeDottie will be residing at 9446 Rum Runner Road. The equipment, office, and living quarters for relief personnel will remain at 9540 Jolly Roger. LGIFR has received an $1800 grant from the Forestry Department and is applying for several more grants to purchase needed equipment. The next meeting will be on March 5th. For more information, see
