Janet East Midlands Network: EMMAN Transition

November 2012

Responsibility for the operation of the regional network in the East Midlands, currently operatedby EMMAN, will transfer to Janetat the end of December 2013.
This transfer is part of Janet’s ongoing national programme of work to move in-house the operation of the regional delivery of Janet services. In tandem with this process, the East Midlands regional network will undergo a procurement refresh during the course of 2013.

Janet and EMMAN (together with assistance from the East Midlands institutions) are working together on the transition and the procurement, with planning meetings having begun several months ago.We are committed to ensuring that your Janet service continues to meet your needs and that it is capable of responding to your future demands.

To this end, a programme board and related project panels have been established, the make-up of which will ensure strong representation on behalf of the academic sectors in the region. A requirements consultation process has now also taken place, which has informed the procurement exercise.

We are about to start the re-procurementof the physical network, using the Janet Telecommunications Framework.By the end of February 2013, suppliers will have been appointed to implement the network refresh. This will allow plenty of time to implement any changes needed for the new network and for customers to be migrated onto it,before the handover occurs. The refreshed regional network is planned to be fully operational by the end of November 2013.

Your service will not be affected by the re-procurement process; any service disruption needed during the migration to the refreshed network will bekept to a minimum and completed at a time agreed in advance with every customer.
