 Responsible to the Chief Nurse Executive and Senior Director for: 24 hour accountability of 75 nursing and secretarial staff for the delivery of safe, quality patient care, staffing guidelines, unit budget, care delivery models, patient care initiatives, program development, compliance with regulatory guidelines, quality improvement, resource utilization, interviewing and hiring, employee orientation, staff development and facilitation of system, hospital and unit projects in the following cost centers: 60-bed Med/Surg Unit.
 Accountable for facilitative leadership, strategic planning and team building for a management team composed of 2 Nurse Managers.
Accomplishments:
  • Implementation of staff accountability and adherence to Hospital’s cultural beliefs and patient satisfaction initiatives for my units.
  • Fiscal/Budgetary: Direct experience in managing all phases of the operational and capital budgets to meet or exceed organizational benchmarks.
  • Patient/Staff Safety: Focus on falls and medication education. In 2015, my unit 23 was the only inpatient unit at Big Hospital to achieve a fall rate below the national benchmark.
  • Successful completion of Niche Training and a member of the implementation team. Implementation of project on going.
Intermediate Care Units (IMCU),Nurse Manager (October, 2013 to August, 2015)
 Responsible to the Patient Care Director for: 24 hour accountability of 65 nursing, centralized monitoring and secretarial staff for the delivery of safe, quality patient care, staffing guidelines, unit budget, care delivery models, patient care initiatives, program development, compliance with regulatory guidelines, quality improvement, resource utilization, interviewing and hiring, employee orientation, staff development and facilitation of system, hospital and unit projects in the following cost centers: 25-bed IMCU.
Accomplishments:
  • Successful renovation of my unit with a budget amount of approximately $500,000.
  • Successful re-establishment of Collaborative Team Rounding, Bedside Shift Report, and Hourly Rounding on my unit.
  • Retention/Vacancy Rates: Attrition of 6 employees for 2014, 5 of which werethrough loss due to accountability issues and one employee left the area.
  • Successful implementation of Bed Master in Central Telemetry.
  • Re-establishment of unit accountability, including time and attendance and clinical standards of practice.
  • Successful implementation of system wide Evidence Based Project centering around patient education on medications with special emphasis on heart failure.
  • Successful implementation of employee engagement project producing increased employee satisfaction as exemplified by my unit, having the highest inpatient unit scores as compared to other inpatient units and the third highest scores at Big Hospital.

 Responsible to the Senior Director for: 24 hour accountability of 80nursing and secretarial staff for the delivery of safe, quality patient care, staffing guidelines, unit budget, care delivery models, patient care initiatives, program development, compliance with regulatory guidelines, quality improvement, resource utilization, interviewing and hiring, employee orientation, staff development and facilitation of system, hospital and unit projects in the following cost centers: 38-bed IMCU and 5-bed Dialysis Unit
 Accountable for facilitative leadership, strategic planning and team building for a management team composed of 2Assistant Nurse Managers.
Accomplishments:
  • Successful implementation of Daily Interdisciplinary Rounds including participation by multiple departments with noted decrease in Length of Stay. Served as Best Practice Model for Dolphin Hospital with the adoption by all inpatient units.
  • Successful renovation of the Unit and active member of the inpatient unit Renovation Team. Responsible for mock set up of rooms and obtaining staff feedback for best practice for room set up.

Intensive Care Unit/ Step Down Telemetry/Ortho/Surgical Unit – Nurse Manager (November, 2009 to March, 2011).
 Responsible to the Chief Nurse Executive for: 24 hour accountability of 100 nursing and secretarial staff for the delivery of safe, quality patient care, staffing guidelines, unit budget, care delivery models, patient care initiatives, program development, compliance with regulatory guidelines, quality improvement, resource utilization, interviewing and hiring, employee orientation, staff development and facilitation of system, hospital and unit projects in the following cost centers: 6-bed ICU, 32-bed Telemetry Unit, and a 32-bed Ortho/Surgical Unit.
Accomplishments:
  • Opening of new hospital and stabilization of staffing.
  • Creation of policy and practice standards for new hospital based on standards set forth by Mary Washington Hospital policy.
  • Improved vacancy rate of staffing in all 3 patient care areas.
  • Improved quality and level of care offered in Intensive Care Unit. Additional services offered: ventilators and balloon pumps.
  • Installation of telemetry monitoring and employee testing to ensure all staff capable of evaluating cardiac rhythms.
