Minutes meeting 25 March 2017

Present: Dominique, Caroline, Rob, Carla, Salilla, Keith & Jimmy James

  1. Meeting Keith

We are happy to meet Keith (British) and his wife Jimmy (Thai). Keith works for Sine Education (

Sine provides English books, materials and teachers to Thai private and Government schools. Keith travels a lot throughout Thailand, mainly North-East and knows schools very well. He explains the Thai schooling system and we could verify what we have investigated so far.

Besides school fees, we might have to think about other costs

- books

- uniforms

- transport

- (for university) accommodation

- he even suggests to think about (part) of salary which a family would receive when their child would go out working. This would be a financial stimulus not to keep the child from school

There are better Government schools, which generally attract better children and there are ‘A’ and ‘B’ classes, with brighter kids in one class. We should focus on the better school and the brighter kids. We will start with 2 different schools/locations.

Keith can help us with the first selection of children through the teachers. Salilla and Jimmy can interview the children and get more background information of the families.

Later he provides a list a locations where he comes:

Domique/Caroline and Rob/Carla will have to decide how many kids we want to start with, as we do this from private funds.

We aim to start with at least 1 or 2 after Songkran holiday, in the new school year. That means 15th May. We will have to experience how it goes with recruitment/costs/evaluation along the way.

We will also have the meeting with Mr Sallo Polak on 18 April, who might also be able to provide names of children. We agree that we shouldn’t rush and have to select carefully.

  1. Chamber of Commerce & formalities

Carla went to the Netherlands and arranged all formalities with the Chamber of Commerce, who accepted the changes. In the meantime we received an English extract of the Chamber of Commerce (see Dropbox – legal). This is a big achievement. Well done everyone!!

Carla will now discuss with the bank to open a bank account. They haven’t made clear which documents they still need. Carla presented them the original set of documents, before sending it to the Chamber. They made copies of the originals, but there was no time for a meeting. Carla will contact them again about next steps.

In order to be able to raise funds we will also need to apply for a ‘permission for fundraising’ in the Netherlands. To finance the first children from our own funds, we don’t need the permission, but as soon as we start fundraising we do need the permission.
