J.S. Gillett Drama Club 2014-2015

Welcome to the World of Drama

Acting is a great and wonderful way for students to build their self-esteem and express themselves creatively. At J.S. Gillett, students will have an opportunity to do just that by getting involved in the Drama Club. The J.S. Gillett Drama Club will provide any student enrolled in 5th or 6th grade and passing all classes the opportunity to act. All of the meetings willhelp prepare students for two different performances—1) in December and the 2) in May. Student who register to be in the drama club must bring in a signed parent/student contract form that will be given at parent meeting at a later time.

The J.S. Gillett Drama Club will meet once a week (Mondays) from 4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Miss Garces Room B116.During this time, we will become familiar with fundamentals of acting through improvisational games and scene study. We will also be using this time to rehearse for our performances with additional rehearsal times throughout the school year.

Our 1st performance will be in December and we will be performing the Charlie Brown Christmas which will be performed in front of our 5th and 6th grade students usually the last week before Christmas break. Auditions are going to be held for the different character/parts of Charlie Brown Christmas sometime in October. The 2nd performance will be in May and it will be a musical where all students who get a part can get a chance to sing or even possibly dance in the musical. The spring musical will be “Alice in Wonderland The Musical”. Last year, the J.S. Gillett Drama Club performed Alice @ Wonderland The Musical” and it was a great success. The spring play “Alice in Wonderland The Musical” will be way different than the one that was presented this year this past May.

At the current time, we do have a booster club (J.S. Gillett Drama Booster Club) but we will need to elect new board members (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, & Historian). All of the new board members need to be parent or a guardian of a student who is participating and willing to make a commitment to stay in the drama club. During the school year, the booster club will be able to create opportunities where funds can be raised with the help of our students and the community. These fundraising opportunities will help the drama club pay for expenses relating to the performances as well as the end of the year trip. A fundraiser that has been a success is the snowcone/chip/pickle sale afterschool but due to recent guidelines that were put in place by the Department of Agriculture as of July 1, 2014 that may not be able to happen.

We will be having a parent meeting sometime in September and we will be begin drama club on Wednesday, September 17, 2014.

Want You!!!

The J.S. Gillett School Drama Club is in need of help and support from parents and community members. Our purpose is to support the Drama Club at J.S. Gillett Intermediate School by enlisting the cooperation of parents and other supporters to promote the theatrical education of Gillett Intermediate School students.

To provide this support, we ask for volunteers and financial donations. We welcome the support of parents whose children are involved in the JS Gillett Drama Club and invite you to attend our meeting to help us plan.
