IXL Summer Assignments for 6Th Graders Moving up to 7Th Grade

IXL Summer Assignments for 6th graders moving up to 7th grade.

In order to ensure a smooth transition into the rigorous 7th grade math curriculum, we would like students to utilize IXL during the summer months in order to practice procedural fluency with previously taught skills. IXL makes it easy for your child to practice the material and advance in topic areas of interest.

IXL is a Web-based math practice program that we use to reinforce the curriculum. The program allows us to individualize the learning experience for students so that they can work at their own pace to master the material. Your child can sign in to any computer or laptop with the username and password provided by his or her teacher (see below). There are even iPad and Android apps to allow your child to practice on the go!

IXL breaks down topics into progressive skills for every grade level and provides immediate feedback with question-specific explanations for every incorrect answer. It is extremely important that your child takes the time to read the explanations in order to clarify any misunderstandings.

The IXL Smart Score When tracking your child’s progress, you will notice that many of the reports display a Smart Score for each skill. This is not a percentage or standard scoring system, but is based on a unique algorithm that understands the learning process. The Smart Score takes into account not only the number of questions a student has answered correctly and incorrectly, but also the difficulty of the problems and the student’s ability to answer correctly with consistency. It weighs recent answers more heavily to reflect the student’s current understanding of the skill. The benefit of this system is that the score will adapt no matter how many questions your child answers, ensuring that every student always has the possibility of reaching his or her Smart Score goal! A Smart Score below 60 means below grade level

The expectation is one topic per week (10 assigned topics). Each student should work towards the goal of achieving AT LEAST 85% Mastery per topic. These assignments will count towards the first marking period of 7th grade. All the specified skills are found under 7th Grade Skills
