First Grade

Student of the Week

Dear Parents,

Each week during the school year, our class will feature one child to be the Student of the Week.

During your child’s special week, the children and I would love for you to share with us the many special gifts and talents your child has, as well as why they are so very special to your family. (Grandparents and younger siblings are always welcome too!)

Please come visit us on the Monday of your child’s week, at 8:30 a.m., for a 10-15 minute presentation. (You’ll be amazed at how fast 15 minutes flies by! )If your child’s week happens to fall on a short week due to a Monday holiday, we invite you to visit us on that Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.

Items to share with the class during your visit:

Please prepare a poster displaying photos of your child. The poster will be on display for the week in the classroom. Feel free to decorate the poster as you wish!  Photographs, gemstones, craft supplies – you name it – this is your child’s week to shine! Your child will bring home his/her poster on Friday of his/her special week.Your standard 22x28 poster paper is usually the best option!

Special “loveable” itemsthat are meaningful to you and your child! Trophies, awards, specialblankies, stuffed animals, favorite small toys etc. I only ask that you take these prized possessions home with you that same day to ensure their safe keeping.

Your child will come home on Friday of the previous week, with the Bucket Bag. Please share with your family the wonderful book Have You Filled A Bucket Today? and record in our class journal how your child fills your family’s buckets. Please bring the Bucket Bag with you, along with the book, journal, and stuffed animal. I ask that you share your journal entry with the children during your visit.

But that’s not all!  As Student of the Week, your child will enjoy some special privileges:

Line-leader for the week,

Sit in the special cozy, comfy, green chair during rug time,

Teacher’s Assistant for the week

Participate as one of the Gift Bearers at the Friday School Mass, when there is a Mass scheduled. If a Mass is not scheduled during your child’s special week, he/she will be given the opportunity to bring up the gifts at another Mass.

A sign-up sheet will be available at Back- To- School Night. At that time, please choose a week for your child. A Student of the Week Calendar/Schedule will be sent home to serve as a reminder of your week.
