Item No 5 - FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM1 Required

Kidde Model No. WHDR, Chemical Storage Unit, Fire protection system to be pre-piped by the exhaust hood manufacturer at time of fabrication and installed by FSE Contractor. System to be Kidde WHDR Wet Chemical Pre-Engineered system with the following specifications:

  • Wet chemical suppressant using Aqueous Potassium Carbonate (APC).
  • System shall conform to and be in accordance with UL300, NFPA 17A, NFPA

96, and install in accordance with manufacturers Installation Manual (part #

87-122000-001) which is UL Listed, as well as to all local and state codes and

standards.

  • System to be pre-piped and fusible link detection with the appropriate

temperature rating for application, incorporated with ventilator sections by ventilator

manufacturer at time of construction. If for any reason system can not be pre-piped, CFL must be notified in writing immediately.

  • Wherever possible, system piping shall be unexposed. All piping conduit and nozzles shall be smooth chrome-plated brass. Discharge tubing to be stainless steel type 304 or chrome plated stainless and must be bent and installed in accordance with manufacturers Installation manual. Fusible link assemblies shall be unexposed within the ventilator bodies or within enclosed boxed recessed into ventilator roof.
  • System shall be equipped complete with tanks, control head for releasing,

remote manual release, etc...Tanks shall be pressurized to 175 psig with dry nitrogen

and be listed to be stored and operated between 0°F and 120°F. Tanks MUST have a

pressure gauge. Tanks without pressure gauges are not acceptable. Tanks containing the Kidde APC fire suppression agent must at all times be pressurized with dry nitrogen to 175 psig to keep out all foreign contaminants. Cylinders and controls shall be mounted on wall where shown on plan at an accessible height that will not conflict with equipment below.

  • Mechanically activated gas shut off valves furnished by the Foodservice Equipment Contractor and connected by the Plumbing Contractor. Coordination and cabling to valve by Food Service Equipment Contractor.
  • All discharge nozzles are to utilize foil seals attached via a locking nut instead of rubber caps.
  • Shunt trip type breaker disconnect provided and installed by the Electrical Division. FSE Contractor to coordinate shut trip breaker requirements with the Electrical Contractor.
  • System to provide plenum and duct collar protection and surface protection for equipment underneath Items # 70 and 71, Exhaust Ventilator.
  • Provide unit with adequate number of contacts to connect to buildingalarm system for this application, etc...

FSE Contractor will be required to obtain all permits and arrange for system inspection and testing to achieve an approved operable system.

The system shall be installed by a factory authorized Kidde Fire Systems distributor certified on the Kidde WHDR pre-engineered system.

Remote activation station:

  • Fire Protection System remote manual activation stations are to be flush

Wall-mounted, with the cabling conduit recessed within the wall. They are to be

located along pathways between the protected equipment and area exits, and in

accord with any governing local code requirements.

  • The FSE contractor is responsible for furnishing the Fire Protection System

shall coordinate the efforts between his Fire Protection System subcontractor,

any necessary other t5rades, and with local code enforcement officials, as may be necessary to comply with paragraph (1) immediately above.

  • If the FSE contractor determines that for any reason compliance with

paragraph (a) is not possible an appropriate and timely “Inability to Comply”

statement must be furnished to Clevenger, Frable LaVallee for their review and response.
