Reading…
This week students will begin to explore what readers do when they’re reading. Students will make predictions, connections, mental images, and ask questions.

Students will begin learning and applying strategies to solve addition number strings (i.e. 3+7+4). Students will determine whether the order of the numbers matter when solving addition.

Writing…
Students will continue to discuss where authors generate ideas. Students will participate in discussions on a variety of writing such as letters and flip books.
Ask your child… what are some topics you could write about? What kind of writing could you do? / Science…
Students will begin observing the weather each day!
Ask your child… what kinds of weather could you observe in Houston?
Everyday Editing…
Students will review when to capitalize a letter.
Ask your child… what words always need a capital? / Social Studies…
In social studies, we will be focusing on the Cardinal Creed. Students will illustrate ways to be safe, respectful and responsible in a variety of school settings.
Ask your child… how can you be safe, respectful and responsible at school?
Word Study…
This week students will review the difference between vowels and consonants.
Ask your child… what are the vowels and consonants in the alphabet? Can they label a family member’s name?

Ms. Gommels

My name is Sara Gommels and this is my 4th year teaching at Fall Creek Elementary. I graduated from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in 2005. I began my teaching career in Irving, TX teaching 3rd grade and have taught 3rd, 5th and 2nd. This is my 9th year, and I love teaching your children!
