PTLW / CTE FY16 Q&A

  1. Is there a defineddepreciation amount\ percent on equipment when calculating matching funds?
  1. No.

Q. Is there a list of expenses that can be included in matching funds, such as registration fees\software licenses for programs beyond the initial startup year?

A. Information may be found in resources posted on the KDE website.

Q. We are in the first year of our PLTW program. We have not received any grant

funding up to this point. Do we qualify to write for the implementation grant or do we need to apply for the sustainability grant since our program is already in place, Meade Co. Schools?

  1. Yes. If you have never received funds from KDE you are eligible to apply for implementation.

I have a couple of questions regarding the 2016 Energy Technology RFA.

Q.Is this a Project Lead the Way program?

A. No. PLTW curriculum may be used but is not required.

  1. Regarding eligibility, the RFA states:

“Eligibility -- Any schools who have previously received Energy Technology Engineering Career Pathway grants are eligible to apply, with the exception of an individual school that has received an Implementation Grant and two or more Sustainability Grants.”

Q. Are schools who have NOT previously received grants eligible to apply?

A. Yes. If you have never received funds from KDE you are eligible to apply for implementation.

  1. I have read over the RFA several times and wanted to ask a clarifying question. I work at registered PLTW Middle school. We are in our 3rd year of implementation in the program and have added a course each year. We have never applied for any KDE grant monies to fund or implement as of yet.

Is there a requirement that our students have to directly feed into a high school PLTW.

  1. No.

Q. In XXXXXX County we have schools of study that students can apply to. There are different high schools that offer different PLTW programs and students are encouraged to apply to the school of their choice. The high school that is closest to us (and a resides school for many of our students who do not apply for another choice) is not a PLTW school.

Would we still be eligible to apply for the implementation grant since we do implement the Gateway to Technology program and are trying to grow it each year?

  1. Yes. If you have never received funds from KDE you are eligible to apply for implementation.
  1. When drafting the narrative for the RFA, should the application components be structured in the same order as the “application components” list, or the order as listed in the rubric?

A.Proposal includes (in this order):

–Cover sheet (copy and complete page 10)

–Assurances (copy and complete page 11)

–Proposal Narrative (4 pages of your text; follows the rubric on page 7)

–Timeline (1 page of your text)
